As of now, it's still doing pretty well financially.

I do think it's safe to say that it'll probably be joining Hamilton as a Tony Nominee for Best Musical next year. As we've seen in the past, nominators do seem to enjoy these kinds of shows (Jersey Boys, Beautiful). It should be interesting to see how it will potentially do in Tony nominations.

While it will  and should be nominated for Musical, it will stand no chance against the juggernaut. For that matter, no musical this year will. It is a shame but there it is.

^At least the most that the other shows could do is advertise them.

Can the hoped-for Latino audience afford $150 a ticket?

Do you know what happens when you let Veal Prince Orloff sit in an oven too long?

Saw this on Weds night, and have to admit that the book is pretty much all around awful. But there is an abundance of energy on stage with irresistible music to keep you feeling good. The performances are excellent. Villafane is giving a star performance, her ability to so closely match Estefan's look and sound (without seeming like a bland copy) is truly impressive. Josh Seggara, What more can be said? His vocals are not exactly pleasant, but he is very enjoyable and has a wonderful stage presence. Andrea Burns is such an amazing talent, bringing the heart to this production and making the most out of a somewhat underwritten role. I would love to see her get her first Tony nomination, but this season is very crowded. The underrated Alma Cuervo is a joy from start to finish. It's been impressive seeing her take on array of very different roles from Road Show to Women on the Verge to this.

The band is obviously amazing. Sets could have been much better. Otherwise, it's not perfect and this isn't normally my type of musical, but the music and performances are enough to keep it floating above water. I'll probably see it a second time before the Tonys.

Why is it a shame? Hamilton is only "hype" to you because you haven't been to see it. Not that it prevents you from bringing it up in every single thread, of course. Some people may have enjoyed OYF more than Hamilton, but the odds are against anyone thinking they are similar artistic achievements. Even a lot of die-heard Gloria fans have admitted the show is a bit cheesy.

I liked Estefan's music.  When it was at the height of its popularity.

And I still do.

But while I was on the fence about seeing this when I'm in NY again in a couple of months, I think I'm off the fence now. Even despite some of the okay reviews.

I'd rather just see her in concert rather than go listen to her music with a little story put behind it.  I laud her for her comeback after the accident and all, but beyond that, the story just doesn't seem interesting enough for me to take up a spot on my itinerary.  I guess since I know the story already and the crossover piece isn't all that unique to her anymore.

I'll continue listening to the MSM's CDs, and maybe even see her in concert again someday.  Will take a pass on this one though.

If you love salsa dancing see it for that! The entire cast are splendid singers and dancers.  I was blown away by the choreography. I wish I could see it again next week! I wish they had a lottery! Hopefully it will be nominated for Drama Desk and OCC awards as well as Tonys. I adored it.

I also loved First Daughter Suite and Daddy Long Legs.
