Posted: 3/20/12 at 11:44amJust noticed that the very day after receiving all those rave reviews, ONCE is back up on TDF for three dates this week. Haven't seen it yet, but after those great reviews and the word of mouth, I'm very surprised by this.

Maybe the word of mouth among the general public differs from that on Broadway World.
We saw the same phenomenon with Follies.

Posted: 3/20/12 at 3:33pmI would be shocked if there was ANY word of mouth about this show. Outside of confusion with the title evoking some kind of fairytale, this show will never find an audience.

Posted: 3/20/12 at 5:36pmIt's also on TKTS today for 50% off. However, it's first three weeks(all previews + opening night) it managed to gross around $500K and was over 90% capacity for all three weeks. For a show with a cast of just 13(+5 swings), plus mininal set & costumes coupled with lots of comps, that's extremely good. No way this show is in trouble right now. It would be nice if Once made a few TV appearances(The View, Letterman, etc.).

I don't understand why it is a bad sign that a show is on TDF. So many shows that run for years and years are on TDF, yet it is often discussed as though it is a mark that a show is failing. I am grateful for any opportunity that allows me to get decent seats to any Broadway show for a reasonable price.
It will be very interesting to see how Once does during the summer tourist season. I think TDF only helps raise awareness with the tourist crowd.

Posted: 3/20/12 at 5:55pmI'm wondering if TDF gets an allotment of tickets before the reviews come out, and that this is part of it.

Posted: 3/20/12 at 10:46pmI was there tonight. The Mezz was full, and audience jumped to its feet at the end of the show. An amazing night of theater.

Posted: 3/21/12 at 12:30amAre you a big fan of the film?? I love the film and the music, even danced to Falling Slowly at my wedding, I'm just wondering if I'm too biased to enjoy the show.
