I love all of the love for The Band's Visit!

Also, only 1 Broadway leading man in the Best Actor in a Play category.

For Best off-Broadway musical?  It was great!  And what other off-Broadway musical would you have nominated in its place?  Certainly not Ride the Cyclone.

I had forgotten that Shuffle Along would be considered this year, and I am glad to see their phenomenal choreography and costumes acknowledged with nominations!

 

Having not seen The Little Foxes, is it weird that Laura Linney was nominated in leading and Cynthia Nixon in featured...?

Not at all, and it's likely that's how they'll be considered for the Tonys as well.

The producers have made it clear to nominators that they are submitting Linney for Leading and Nixon for Featured, so it is the performances where Linney is on for Regina and Nixon for Birdie that nominators will be given tickets to. Nothing weird about it.

I didn't see Sutton Foster nominated for Lead Actress in Sweet Charity.  Anyone know what happened there?

Only the new elements from Comet were eligible (but even so, neither Groban nor Benton were nominated!)

The OCC have a tendency of over-nominating shows that end up getting little-to-no Tony love. Last year they gave 8 nominations to American Psycho.

Never forget when YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN or 9 TO 5 lead the nominations in their respective years.

The OCC never has and never will be any sort of indicator for Tony success. No weight should be given to them.

But I don't think it's hard to see Bronx Tale getting Tony love. It's doing well at the box office, got a NYT critics pick, and Alan Menken wrote it.

In a season with Dolly, DEH, Comet, and Come From Away, it's very easy to see how Bronx Tale could be forgotten. I constantly forget it's even running.
