Late to the game, but i am HERE for Imogen Heap to overthrow Mean Girls for the final Best Score nomination slot. It'll never happen, but if this was last year, Mean Girls wouldn't even be in consideration for a nomination.
Also, this thread has me overall just feel so...bored by this season.
What a strange year this is! Best Actress in a Play is really perplexing me as of now. Outside of Jackson, Rash?d, and Ridloff who do you go for. I was trying to discern who is most likely out of Schumer, Thurman, and McGovern (and the women of Marvin’s Room). I put Schumer and McGovern now but I felt weird putting Schumer especially since I don’t see Benanti getting in now!

A lock for The Band's Visit."
While I agree that The Band's Visit fully deserves it, but I think Mean Girls poses a minor threat. Tina Fey is a name and I would love for it to win solely because of how much I love her. It also was the most hailed part of the show. While I think The Band's Visit is a frontrunner, I wouldn't say it is a lock.

Les, have you seen both shows? The book for The Band's Visit is ten million lightyears away from that of Mean Girls. I'm a big Fey fan, too, don't get me wrong, but if she wins the Tony for this, I'll be flabbergasted.
I have only seen Band's Visit, so my statement was based and other's predictions and reviews. Will be seeing the show soon (after the awards). I do agree that The Band's Visit fully deserves it, just don't believe it is a lock.
GeorgeandDot said: "Um. Carousel is not winning that many Tonys. Certainly not scenic or revival.
I do think that it should be heavily considered for best orchestrations. Tunick has done some incredible work there."
I personally think that Jamshied Sharifi has that award in the bag, but I think Carousel has the potential to win up to three Tony's; Leading Actor, Featured Actress, and Choreography. It also could take nothing, but it at least has a chance at winning those three. As for nominations, I'd say those three, plus Revival and Orchestrations, but I think that's it.
I hated this production of Carousel, but I have so much respect for the actors. Joshua Henry and Lindsay Mendez give marvelous performances, as does Jessie and Renee, despite some horrible direction. It's harder to give a great performance under bad direction than it is to give a great performance under great direction. I think Henry is still in the running for lead actor, but O'Brien has really messed up his performance by giving him just some really awakward staging. I think Lindsay Mendez should win, but I found that he performance was also unfocused and she seemed to be (like the rest of the cast) working under no direction. Just so many wonderful opportunities in that cast, but nothing was fully realized.
I agree that The Band's Visit should win orchestrations. I just think Tunick has done some lovely work reducing the orchestrations of Carousel without losing their power.
Also, there's no way that the monstrosity that is the set of Carousel will be nominated for a Tony.

Totally agree. I'd say the only design award it has a shot at getting nominated for is Brian McDevitt's lights. Although personally I think that Tyler Micoleau, Natasha Katz, and Donald Holder have that on lock and the fourth nomination is between Carousel and Once on This Island, with Kevin Adams a possibility for Spongebob.
Can someone on here please set my mind at ease on the following subjects...
Please tell me the 3 Olivier winners from Cursed Child (Jamie Parker, Noma Dumezwani and Anthony Boyle) will not beat the, imho, much more deserving trio from Angels in America (Andrew Garfield, Denise Gough and Nathan Lane or James McArdle)
I very much enjoyed Cursed Child, but Parker simply yells/cries all his "big bits" (that, does not a Tony Winning Actor make), and Noma really doesn't stand out to me at all (again, not to take away from either performance) The only one I want even nominated, absolutely deservingly, is Anthony Boyle, whose Scorpius was my absolute fav part of that whole experience. (Again, I loved the show and know it will take home its fair share of Tonys in design, and I will be 100% ok with that)
Long story short, please assure me, if possible that the Potter fandom will not overtake the Tony voters as it seems to have done two years ago at the Oliviers. Angels was one of the most astounding things I have ever seen in my decade of theatergoing, and I need it be rewarded as such!
qaf, the only performer in Cursed Child who I thought was deserving of a Tony Award was Anthony Boyle. I thought his performance was beyond exceptional. That said, now that we know Nathan Lane is considered in the same Featured Actor category, it's pretty likely he won't take the statue. Expect a strong night for Angels in the performance categories.
There seems to be many categories that could go either way.. The Actors in a play (Garfield, Lane, Gough vs. Harry Potter), Revival (OOTI vs. MFL), Actors in a musical (Lenk vs. Ambrose vs. Kilgore, Henry vs. Slater vs. Haden-Patton, Mendez vs. Rockwell vs. Salonga) The only ones that are TRUE locks that I can think of are Best Play (HP), Best Revival of a Play (AIA), Best Musical (TBV), Best Score (TBV), Actress in a Play (Leading, Glenda Jackson)
I just watched Katrina Lenk's Show People interview. Then I wound up rewatching a few Band's Visit videos and such, including her performance of Omar Sharif last year at the Obie Awards.
I feel so dumb for even considering that she wouldn't win the Tony. She is downright astounding. I can't wait to go back and see the show again.
Of course nothing's for certain, but I just cannot see Ambrose or Kilgore taking this. Not compared to the magical performance Katrina Lenk is putting on each night.
Kilgore will be nominated for a great debut, but I'd say she is not in consideration to win. Ambrose could win, but it is very much in Lenk's favor (thankfully). GeorgeandDot, many have been predicting that only My Fair Lady and Once on This Island will be nominated, so it is very possible and I'd say likely.
GeorgeandDot said: "I agree. Carousel isn't anywhere near being in the league with Once on this Island and My Fair Lady."
I thought this early on, and although reviews for Carousel haven’t exactly been glowing, I think it got enough positive reviews to justify a nomination.
