"Only gay people watch the Tony's." - Chris Rock

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/02/22/oscars.rock.ap/index.html
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

What? Like he was wrong?

was going to say...have you SEEN the ratings for the Tony's lately...it's about 10% of the usual viewers...coincidence? I don't think so.

The comment is humorous, however I find his attitude in hosting the Oscars to be offensive.

Lol...he was completely right. Besides, he's a comedian making a joke out of a sterotype. C'mon Everyone's a Little Bit Racist...Ethnic jokes might be uncouth, but you laugh because
they're based on truth.

Amen, Aaron!

People get so offended by Chris Rock because he states either the complete facts or his honest opinion. He never says anything purely to be offensive.

I love Chris Rock.

Again, yes, he is humorous. But why host the Oscars? Why disrespect those who watch the show, and those who take part in the event? What ever happened to class?

All award shows shouldn't be taken seriously. It's all a variety show. It's entertainment. But the Oscars is still a classy show - at least I'd like to think so.

Was it classy when Goldberg hosted? No. AND she wasn't even entertaining. Rock is.

I love his comments in that article. Especially regarding fashion at the Nobel prize ceremony. LOL Listen to Rock carefully and you'll discover he's mostly right concerning nearly everything he talks about. He's just not afraid of being politically correct all the time. Years ago, comedians were never politically correct and it never made the news. All this is publicity to hype the awards telecast.

"Don't thank God," Rock said. "God's busy working on the tsunami, so leave him alone."

Haha, love it

Examples, please. All I keep thinking of is Lenny Bruce and George Carlin, and I know that's not what you're talking about.

And obviously Rock was hired to hype up the show. It certainly isn't for anything having to do with the film industry.

Although I didn't take offense from any of his comments, I just don't find him funny. I've tried to watch him and get into his humor as so many have, but I can't. His voice goes right through me, and I have no tolerance for the way he behaves.

Even if he did say that, I'm sure that's only a small speck of the tidal wave of crap we actors have to deal with. Anyone that easily offended shouldn't be in show business!

My son has the misfortune of being heterosexual. He watches the Tony Awards with me (he has to if he wants to remain under my roof!) and enjoys them very much. He still talks about Carol Channing's duet with LL KoolWhip (or whatever that guy's name was!)

I don't know any straight people who watch the tonys. But it is stereotypical. Like saying only Blacks watch the Image awards or rednecks only watch the CMAs
