I thought the play was fantastic and I'm excited to see it endure in a different medium. Thoughts?

Great!! Probably the most underrated show of last season.
Thrilling!!! As much as I loved The Humans, I think this was the strongest play of the season. Can't wait for it to come to PBS!
Agreed! It will be really interesting to see how the iambic pentameter translates to TV.

Went in not expecting much...and within the first 5 mins of the show I was struck by it and amazed. I'm really looking forward to how this will be done. Should be excellent!!
Casting has been announced. Tim Pigott-Smith, Oliver Chris, Richard Goulding, and Margot Leicester will be reprising their roles in the film.

AMAZING news! Was so sad I couldn't catch this on Broadway last year.
A not completely unrelated question: I'm watching THE CROWN on Netflix and just finished the episode where the Princess Elizabeth is told she may choose the name she will use as queen. Her father and uncle both chose new names as their "monarch" names (i.e., her father was named Andrew, but chose to become King George).
Does CHARLES III address this? Obviously, the play assumes Prince Charles will keep his given name if and when he takes the throne. Perhaps it's the new tradition?

The classic rule is that the new monarch can choose any one of their baptismal names as regnal name. So Charles Philip Arthur George could be Charles III, Philip (the First), Arthur (the First; the legendary king doesn't count) or George VII. He would choose, but I think he'd go with Charles.
^^^^^Thanks. They didn't mention any limitation in THE CROWN. I agree it makes sense that Prince Charles would keep his name; the royals are so much more accessible to the world now and so much better known to all of us because of tabloids and TV. I know popes still do it, but most of us don't know a cardinal until he becomes Pope.
Charles has been a household name for half-a-century--and not just in England.

Previews started this week for the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre's production of the play in case anyone is in town in the weeks ahead. I'm seeing it tomorrow night. Very excited.
That Lydia Wilson is not reprising her role as Kate is criminal.
Agreed! I actually thought she'd win a Tony for the role when I saw it the first time.
And that was before all the ladies who were nominated for Featured Actress in a Play started performances.

It will be shown on the BBC on May 10. A fitting tribute to Tim Piggott-Smith, who died in April.

I am glad that they captured Tim Pigott-Smith's brilliant work in this play.
I believe the broadcast date is May 14th, though - Masterpiece is usually on Sunday evenings at 9.

Thanks! Can't wait. I have already pre-purchased the DVD, too.
I'm so glad Tim Pigott-Smith's performance was preserved, I absolutely loved this play.
