I agree, people in New York are so complex and mysterious that the rest of the country is just out of it when it comes to a show like Company. Either that, or they just think they are.
Yes, we do need a third vampire musical.--Little Sally, Gypsy of the Year 2005.
Call the understudy / I can't go on tonight / I'm drinking with my buddy / I'm getting good and tight / Before they raise the curtain I'll be higher than a kite / So call the understudy
I can't go on tonight
It may not matter that a non-New York audience won't get every reference and get all the jokes. When this production of Company was at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, the entire run was sold out. People sat in the aisles (the gangways) on every other step until the theater was filled to the max the fire marshalls allowed, in addition to standing room in the back. Back then , I had no idea who Raul Esparza was, having lost interest in much of Broadway's Mama Mia/Tarzan type offerings. Hey, this show has revitalized my interest in Broadway stuff, and I've come to NYC and seen 6 shows since I first saw Company in 2006.
How many people really understood the reference to the Seagrams Building as a popular cruising spot in 1970. We laughed because Bobby had a glass in his hand.
I'll probably complain a little, just not as much as before.

Thank you PBS!!!!! I promise that I will pledge $25(I am poor from seeing Broadway shows and buying a house) and not complain about your pledge drives(begathons) anymore...Now I am just waiting and crossing my fingers to hear when they will broadcast it or more importantly when it will be out on DVD

But the Playbill article (like BWW's earlier release and the Variety article) says that it will be filmed and that the film producers are currently in negotiation to air it on PBS. This most recent BWW release is now saying that PBS will air it. I think people are wondering where that came from, since there's no source.
