"Daniel Radcliffe would be interesting choice for Pippin but I doubt he would do the role."
Um….why? Because he doesn't like musicals? Because with the success of big budget musicals like LES MIS, CHICAGO, DREAMGIRLS etc., he's afraid nobody will come see it?
Seriously, why do you "doubt he would do the role"?
I bet he would love to do it, and he has the right energy and affability for it, too. And he can carry a movie. He's done it just a few times already.

"Can Kerry Washington sing and dance well enough?"

If they're smart, they'll cast a variety of well-known people, from different backgrounds and (hopefully) ethnicities. Theatre, music, film ... all of the above. That's how they'll bring in more fans.
Does Sean Bean sing at all? He would be an interesting Charlemagne, especially since within the world of the frame story, the Charlemagne Player is responsible for playing a series of patriarchal rulers who keep getting killed.
I think it will be very different from what's on Broadway now.
I'm curious about who their director is. I feel like this is one of those projects that shouldn't be made into a movie unless they have a director who comes in with a great vision for them, rather than trying to fit a random director into the project. Will the guy who directed THE SPECTACULAR NOW directing this as well or just writing the screenplay?
I think Daniel Radcliffe would be perfect for this. I love Kerry Washington, not sure that I see her as the mysterious, impish Leading Player, but maybe because I adore her so much as Olivia Pope, it's hard to imagine her in other type of roles. It'd certainly be interesting how they handle the theatrical parts of the show, and I wonder who's on their casting short list.
I love some of your casting choices, especially Amy Adams as Catherine, Nicole Kidman as Fastrada (Spelling error?), and David Radicliffe/Zac Efron/Nick Jonas as Pippin. Being in Hunger Games, Patina would definitely suit both the "big name" and the musical needs. Betty White would be a great Berthe. Or Julie Andrews if her voice is strong enough (Heard about her surgery :/)
If Louis Tomlinson (One Direction) can act I think he would make a great Pippin.
Patina would definitely suit both the "big name" and the musical needs.
I don't know that Patina Miller, talented and awesome as she is, will be considered a "big name" after THE HUNGER GAMES comes out. She isn't the star of the film; most people will start recognizing her, yes, but it's gonna take some time (more importantly, the right vehicle) for her to become a "big name" in Hollywood.
I don't want Nicole Kidman near this after what she did to the character of Claudia in NINE.
But I would love to see her NINE co-star Penelope Cruz tackle the role of "Fastrada".

I would love for Kidman to tackle Fastrada. Seems like a great fit

Kidman would be perfect for the role of Fastrada -- she can do the comedy and the drama, she can dance, she can sing and she'd add some star wattage to the picture.
No offense to y'all'z, but you can't be serious. Usher as the leading player and Justin Timberlake as the Pippin? That sounds awful,
I'd go with Kevin Kline as Charlemagne. And I know she just played 16 going on 17, but I think Ariane Rinehart would work as Catherine. And Michele Pfeiffer as Fastrada.
Kevin turns down 9 out of 10 film roles. It's his own doing. But I agree, he would be a good choice. I also like Geoffrey Rush.
And although I know she's a little old for the role (though I think she comes across young onscreen), and I don't know if she can sing, I think Judy Greer would be great as Catherine.
I feel like they are gonna cast the film very young (at least Pippin and Catherine), so that probably means no Judy Greer or Amy Adams, and more Anna Kendrick, Amanda Seyfried, Shailene Woodley, etc.

For some reason I have Jonathan Groff as Pippin stuck in my head....
If Angela Lansbury can perform 8 times per week on stage I'm sure she can handle playing Berthe. It would be great to see her on a big screen and in a musical again.
She might even get another Oscar for this.
Nicole Kidman can sing?!!! Bwahahahaha!!! Okay now THAT made me laugh. You obviously haven't heard her rendition of "Unusual Way" from NINE.
And puh-leeze do NOT get me started on the warbling she attempted in MOULIN ROUGE. The auto tune was definitely on over-drive for that one.
She's had so much done to her face she can barely register any emotion in it.
I would however love to see her in an adaptation of EVENING PRIMROSE....as A MANNEQUIN.

All casting aside, it's the director, and his or her vision that will make or break this one. If you recall, the taped version from Canada was just the stage show set by one of Fosse's assistants, Kathryn Doby. Will they go with creatives from Broadway or LA? THAT choice will be the most interesting to me.
No one else will suggest her, so I will: Marilyn Maye for Berthe.
I'm strongly considering passing around the draft I've seen from the days when it was owned by Miramax out there. Strong Fosse influence, but with a lot of new elements, some of which were good, some of which were interesting, some of which were "eh." I will say, though, that if this draft even remotely has any influence on the final product, it will be good.
I wonder of they have the rights to that Miramax draft, g.d.e.l.g.i. With the Weinstein Company's involvement, it's possible they do, and they could draw from it. I'm not sure how the deal went down when Weinstein parted ways with Mirimax. I also wonder if they could draw conceptually from the latest revival. It might be interesting to mix a circus setting with a "realistic" setting.
