When I was in the city last (July 6th), the SPIDER MAN Playbills were reverted to B&W (I saw a little boy with one in hand at Chevy's).
CATCH ME also went B&W at the same time.

I saw Young Frankenstein about 6 months into the run nd it was b&w then. Roundabout always does b&w.
Also - this has probably been asked before - but when I saw Mary Poppins (in its last week of previews on Broadway) it was a "Showbill" --- what's the difference??

"Why not just call it a Playbill? Well, Playbill does not want its advertisers showing up to Mary Poppins and rifling through the program, confused as to why their ad is not there. They use the Showbill brand to signify that the mix of advertisers is different."

"According to Playbill Magazine Publisher and President Philip Birsh, Playbill gives the shows the choice, and they can have color if they pay for it. The black-and-white covers are provided free of charge."

Posted: 8/19/11 at 6:57pmAnother difference between a Showbill and a Playbill is also content. For example, Playbills have theatre related articles and is a magazine that gets updated issues out to the theatres every so often. Showbills like the ones used for Poppins have articles that are specific to the show itself. In other words, all the articles in the Poppins Showbill are just on Poppins itself and its creation and things of that nature rather then articles about other shows on Broadway.

Tell that to the folks at Playbill.com. They are the ones who put it online as the Broadway Playbill cover. I just linked it. You can look at the source in the Image Info. Or just go here: http://www.playbill.com/events/event_detail/22593-Venus-in-Fur-at-Samuel-J-Friedman-Theatre

Bonnie & Clyde has such gorgeous artwork, are they seriously using B&W Playbills from the start of the run? Such a pity!
Same for Hugh Jackman... gorgeous artwork there too.

Posted: 11/8/11 at 3:12pmAlot of shows are starting off with B&W or switching rather quickly nowadays...Maybe Color Playbills are simply too much of a luxury for productions.
