Hey Everyone,

My school is doing a musical revue of Frank Loesser, and we want to include the parody song Satchel and a Seck written by Allan Sherman. The only problem is we don't know the lyrics because they are in Yiddish. Can anyone please help me by transliterating the lyrics? Please please please help! We need it really soon so please ask your Jewish friends and your grandparents! Thank you so much!

Well, considering you didn't supply the yiddish lyrics, how can I help?

I don't know any Yiddish, but if it's a direct translation of one of his songs into Yiddish, the original song must be "A Bushel and a Peck" from Guys and Dolls. Check out those lyrics and see if it matches up at all.

Wend...it is...but its a parody of the song. Allen Sherman was a comedian -- of the 60s. Pretty funny, pretty jewish. I actually had one of his albums when I was a kid.

Yes, I never said there wasn't...but it doesn't mean what the op thinks it does.

He either means translate or transcribe....but now based on his most recent post: NOW I'm guessing the op wants someone that HAS the recording to write it down word from word from it. Not asking too much from a bunch of strangers, eh?

It strikes me as an unwise idea to include a song in a revue that's in a language that no one in the cast can speak.

My stating that it isn't a written lanuguage didn't MEAN to imply that you couldn't write it. You can. My original post about that was referring to the word "transliteration".

I should have said it wasn't a written language using its own ALPHABET.
