https://www.broadway.com/buzz/190817/patti-lupone-ben-platt-will-perform-on-the-2018-grammy-awards/ Patti LuPone will be part of a tribute to Andrew Lloyd Webber's career. I detect a bit of irony in there. I'll watch it of course.
What’s Ben’s relation to West Side Story? So odd.
^ There is no connection, he's just the "hot" Broadway name at the moment.
This could just be the wording in the press release, but why does it sound like this “tribute to Broadway” is only highlighting the works of two composers, ALW and Leonard Bernstein?
What about Sondheim? Rodgers and Hammerstein? Kander and Ebb? Irving Berlin?
I’m sorry what , LuPone Will slag of Webber when she gets the chance, but she will turn up to the opening of an envelope to sing his songs. While giving an interview on how much she hates him, gurl please just stop
She's such a drama queen, I love her.

I thought this was odd as well. Why would she agree to sing an ALW song if she despises him so much?
I would assume it’s her signature song, the song she’s already performed on the Grammys.

Why should her dislike of ALW as a person and as a composer mean she cannot sing her own signature song? That song became what it did not just because of the composition but because of what Patti did with it (I think hers is the definitive version, not Elaine's - most Grammy watching audiences would agree). I'm tired of us saying bs about women who speak their mind about their colleagues, but completely ignore same things said by male actors/directors/other artists.

It's a Broadway show. He's a Broadway star.

I don't think folks are suggesting that she "cannot" sing that song; it's just surprising that she'd want to because she never misses an opportunity to slam ALW as someone she wants nothing to do with ever again.

She's never stopped singing it before for that reason. Singing his song that she made famous doesn't mean she is interacting with him as a person.

And isn't his new "pad" on the Upper West Side? There you have it.

I assume Bernstein because there are a whole bunch of Bernstein centennial events happening around the country this year.
Would love it if the Grammys folks said she had to sing "With One Look"

Literally. You know she’s been sitting in her home cackling waiting for this press release to drop. She knows exactly what she’s doing. Gosh, I love her.
Will ALW be there?

Sorry to threadjack but has anyone heard if Patti has had her hip surgery and how she is doing?

I believe she had it a few days after War Paint closed. And since she's doing this, I assume she's doing well.
I can't find it now, but Josh, her son, posted a post-surgery picture from her hospital room back in early December, I think.
'Argentina' will bring the house down and be a crowning moment for Ms LuPone.
Hope there's an ad. break as NO ONE could follow that.
Can't stand the song OR Ms LuPone--they belong together but won't say where.
So is it a Broadway medley, or an Andrew Lloyd Webber medley? I'm interested to see if the cast of PHANTOM or any other performers would take part.
Bernstein's centennial is going on next year, so that makes sense for Ben to sing from WEST SIDE STORY.

The article linked at the top of this thread literally starts: "TV viewers tuning in to the 2018 Grammy Awards are in for a special treat. Tony winners Patti LuPone and Ben Platt have been announced as performers in a special tribute to legendary composers Andrew Lloyd Webber and Leonard Bernstein."
