I wonder how many people outside fans of theater know who she is.
Dunno. But if the point of the "joke" is that nobody remembers what this woman was once famous for, then I don't get the point of the story. Who cares what a forgotten nobody thinks about Radio City Music Hall and miking on Broadway?
EDIT: Or is the point that she is not only famous, but SO famous that mentioning two minor blips on her resume is ironic?
Yeah, I'm still not getting it . . .

I wonder if she's gotten over the pedestrian traffic in Times Square yet.

I don't really think that was the point of the joke. I think it was just unfocused snark.
EW used to have a column that when they'd mention a celebrity, they'd always quote something ridiculous they were known for in quotes after their name. Like for Michelle Pfeiffer, it would say (Grease 2). I don't think you're supposed to take from this article that Patti LuPone is an unforgotten nobody. I think it's just snark. Not the nuanced, layered humor of a Gothampc or anything.

She has always been 'Tits' Lupone to her friends and conquests.
For a while, Kevin Kline went around telling people he used to bang Mammary Rose.
A bit stupid to say, but "Really?" to HistoryBoy2.
I think this blogger has something against theatre people.
Edit: And apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Oh for god's sake people, get a sense of humor. The problem isn't them, it's you.
And while we're at it, nothing happened at Elf either.
Michelle Pfiefer was great in GREASE2.

Is it any wonder that the person who wrote the article chose to remain anonymous? If I ever find out who the author was I'll smear his/her face across the sidewalk outside the St. James Theatre.
You don't talk that way about Patti LuPone while I'm still ambulatory!
I think that "Flannelmouth" knows a thing or two about not being able to make out lyrics. Most of those quotes seem pinched from that video interview she did with Paul Wontorek. She discussed those same issues.
One of the things I love about Patti is her frankness. I think she has a right, as an actress to bitch about the bombastic sound in most shows nowadays. I also respect her for bitching about live telecasts where the orchestra is in a another building and she can't she the conductor. She's got valid points. As far as ticket prices. I think she is being a little naive. Does she want her "star" salary paid? Does she want all the gadgets and gizmos that were in "Women?" Those prices are necessary to pay for all the bells and whistles of theatre.
You can't have it both ways-have money for nice productions and not charge top dollar for tickets.

The joke, as it were, to get is that the shows in question are not really being presented in the context we know them. It's the equivalent of someone saying like "You might remember her from a little show called Evita," and you know that the person saying it is just being coy, because Evita wasn't a little show.
I mean, Jesus.
So, I guess Patti never starred in a TV series. Just that cameo?
The joke failed.

That was 20+ years ago.
Exactly, Q. No one really remembers that show except Patti LuPone fans. I wonder if even half of them could name the show, say, Emmy winner Aaron Paul is on without a Google search, but god forbid you forget about a mediocre show from the late 80s in which the only real claim to any sort of lasting pop culture fame is that it starred an actor with Down Syndrome. Maybe Chad Lowe. Definitely not Patti LuPone anywhere else but on theatre message boards.
You are being presumptuous by saying "no one really remembers that show except Patti LuPone fans." Did you actually poll everyone? Mediocre show? Did you actually watch "Life Goes On" while it was on? It was a very good show which was the first to cast a Down Syndrome actor. Also, towards the end of the show, Chad Lowe had a very memorable and strong storyline. from RC in Austin, Texas
After watching that clip of her in Women on the Verge, she is the absolute LAST person I want to hear complaining about how she can't understand the lyrics in modern Broadway shows.
Not. One. Word.

Yeah and Patti wanted out of it from Day ONe.

Besty - it came across to me like she was doing a parody of herself! I've never heard it that bad - and I've heard her be pretty unintelligible.
It must be that my ear has become attuned, but I can understand her fine.

Patti's been on and on about the high price of Broadway shows at least since "Noises Off" in 2002. Did she volunteer to take a pay cut for "Gypsy" so that the first two rows of orchestra could be set aside for $20 customers?
I just read the comment below the article. I love it when people call others out for being dumb while misspelling words all through their posts.

God, there are more comments on that blog today. Seriously, people, you're coming off as mentally ill.
"The problem isn't them, it's you."
This may be my absolute favorite sentence ever posted on this site in its 8-year history. Mostly cause it's just so TRUE!

Robbie - I would pay big money to see you play Mammary Rose.
Big. Money.
