Well...you either got it. Or ain't. And boys...you know the rest.
I saw SUMMER OF SAM with my friend Kate (totes underrated movie, by the by). When Patti revealed her Lupones, we both screamed 'EVITA!!!!!' at the same time.

What an undignified reaction to the world's preeminent 30 Rock featured extra! I hope you and Kate were thoroughly chastised for your impertinence!

humor alert (and I hope Patti's in good humor when this crosses her desk); the first few lines were meant tongue in cheek, as no one could possibly argue that one of the things Lupone is best known for is the second one enumerated (singing "Invisible" in Women on the Verge).

I think most Americans would remember her as the "mom" on Eight is Enough.
Patti LuPone had her publicist contact Perez Hilton to clarify that she was misquoted in the article. This is what was posted on Perez....
"Patti, as you may know, is one of your diehard fans and reads your website on a regular basis. She asked me to contact you to clear up some misreporting in the story which you picked up.She never said that Cirque de Soleil is too loud. She was speaking about over amplification of Broadway in general and how it alienates and distances the audience. Her remarks to the interviewer about Cirque de Soleil were totally separate from that issue. Patti is a huge fan of Cirque de Soleil. Everytime she’s in Las Vegas she always ends up in the audience of one of their shows. But she wishes that they would not perform near the Broadway theatre district since their current show at Radio City Music Hall is said to be sapping business away from a lot of Broadway musicals. She feels that Broadway needs all the help it can get."

Because linking directly would have been a total pain in the ass.
And furthermore, Perez Hilton should know better than to refer to her with anything other than her full title: BUSTY Broadway babe Patti LuPone. He's getting lazy.
Did Perez draw a penis on the face of BUSTY Broadway babe Patti LuPone?
While Patti has a point about Hair (I saw it in the Park originally and understood what was going on then again a few weeks ago on Broadway where it was utterly unintelligible - and I'm 25) she may have missed the mark on Cirque du Soleil.
If her point is that only musicals should be in Radio City, that's one thing (and actually a rather invalid point considering she has been quoted as complaining that Radio City "swallowing up" musical performers thus why she doesn't like the TONYs to be held there) but the thing is: Cirque du Soleil is not a musical. There is music and singers in every show but their visibility varies from show to show.
Alegria: The Singer in White is featured heavily and given her on Entr'acte scene: http://youtu.be/nWfmy5Tojdc
Quidam: The male singer is in with the band and not featured on stage whatsoever while the female singer (scene on the swing) is the protagonist of the story: http://youtu.be/MdqqssM3TW8
Cirque is about the full package, the visual molding with the sounds and ambiance to create an experience. That is there explanation for why many of their albums are not extracted directly from the show: as its own entity, the music is not supposed to be consumed on its own. It is part of the total package therefore needs to be beefed up for album release.
Furthermore, Cirque at least has quiet moments along with the loud and death-defying moments whereas HAIR stayed at full decibel for almost the entire show.

I don't think that was her point at all. What she was saying was that Cirque du Soleil was siphoning audiences (and money) away from a lot of Broadway shows. I don't know how true that is and I was frankly kind of baffled by the fact that that quote was picked up by a gossip site (and the subsequent revelation that she's a huge Perez Hilton fan).
Wait - where's the Perez Hilton part??? Did I miss something?
I wonder if she feels the same about the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular...
