The night I saw it, his confrontation with Father in Act 2 actually drew applause.
Ragtime has an extremely strong ensemble. I also highly enjoyed Donna Migliaccio, but that may be because I think the role of Emma Goldman is just a wonderful part of the show and I love her songs anyway.
Just letting everyone know before people start B******g about Karen being out, she is on vacation now in California with Matt (Caplan) because he is in American Idiot.
I purposely did not b*@ch Chita because I knew that. :) Ye people, please don't turn this into a crucifixion of Karen.
Glad you had such a great trip. I'm looking forward to seeing Ragtime.
But why does the subject line say April 4-8?
Pj, because I effed up. I'll correct it!

Did I ever say you were B*t*h*n* about it? No. I was saying before everyone starts saying how she is never in that she has been on vacation this week. She hasn't missed a show in a long time.
Bobby Steggert is really my favorite cast member. I'd love to see him get some recognition.
I love Ms. Noll, but I have two words:
Barbara Cook!
Barbara Cook is going to win a Tony for singing songs in a revue?
Nell Carter did it.
And we are talking Sondheim, each song is a dramatic monologue.
Hope she does better than Carol Burnett and Ruthie Henshall.
yes
It was so good seeing you. Glad you had a great trip. :)
I must have been at the same "Next to Normal" performance as you were, BB, because I saw Meghann Fahy in the role too. I agree she did great!

Meghann was on last night as well. I prefer many of her choices to Jennifer's for the reasons that have been pointed out - the innocence, the young girl both (as one of the reviews, I forget which but probably Brantley) said "both wanting to be seen and noticed by her mother and terrified of turning into her", etc. As far as the drug usage goes, I think the innocence and lostness can still be a big part of that. It's not like she's out scoring crack on the street corner. She's still struggling with everything, and I think the "softer side" for lack of a better word works for that.
The night I was there, I believe some of Meghann's family was there because they were so happy and crying and telling people how proud they were of her and about her first getting the callback. I was so touched by their genuine happiness for Meghann. I think she reads a lot younger on stage then Jen, which really worked for me. Also, she seems less like the "stereotypical angsty teen", which I feel is how Jen plays it. Meghann had a freshness that I like-she added the some depth for me.
"I loved Ragtime but.....Noll really left me wanting more. I don't get the hype over her at all. She seemed like she was in a community theater show while everyone else was on Broadway. And I'm a big fan of hers."
INTERESTING. I felt kinda the opposite, like she made much more specific choices than many of her fellow actors and that she and "Mother's Younger Brother" were the standouts.
Oh and as for Rock of Ages, there was a lot of Kira in Sherrie, that is for sure. I loved Kerry in the role.
Wait a sec...am I the only one who didn't know Natalie Cortez was with WSS now? When did she join the company? Does she dance the hell out of America?

I felt the same way about Noll. Her "Mother" was much more dynamic than Mazzie's, in my opinion. Even without comparing her to Mazzie, I thought her portrayal was brilliant. She's the emotional heart of this Ragtime.
Natalie dances THE HELL out of America. She destroys it. You can't take your eyes off of her! She is so intensely sexy and a force of nature in the show. I was stunned by her performance.
I agree: Noll was brilliant. Her interpretation of Mother was spot-on, in my opinion.
I would also LOVE to see Bobby Steggert get some recognition for his work. I was a little put-off by his characterization in the beginning, but after seeing the arc that he takes Younger Brother on I understood where he was coming from and really ended up loving his performance. His confrontation with Father was one of those great theatrical moments, and, as I've said before, his final moments with Coalhouse were so powerful. I really, really loved him.

I did not know Cortez was in WSS. I loved her in a chorus line she should be amazing here

Steggert's brilliant act 2 more than makes up for his bizarre act 1.
I am pretty sure Bobby will get a Tony nod. At least I hope so.
