my apologies if there is already a thread on this subject.
I would absolutely love it if Pink wrote a show. I think a beyonce musical is bound to happen.
I'd like to hear Alice Cooper and his classic band write a show.
I second the Pink idea, and add Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, and Kelly Clarkson.

Another score by Gary Barlow would be most welcome.
I like the idea of Pink and Ben Folds. I was thinking Bonnie Raitt could have an interesting take.
A lot of pop singers and some mentioned either don't write their own music or have 3-4 cowriters on their songs. I think that would make a musical way too heavy an undertaking.

Taylor Swift? Adele? Ellie Goulding? Florence Welch? Tove Lo? Lana del Ray? Oh Land? Beautiful Small Machines? Fiona Apple? Christina Perri? Sia? Colbie Caillat? Melanie Martinez?
It's difficult to say who would be good at writing a musical not even knowing who might have the inclination to write songs for one.
Not sure if I'd call all of them "pop stars" but I'd love to hear what each of them would come up with if they tried their hand at composing a work for the theatre.

Isn't P!nk writing a musical? Or there's one being written about her life?

Kanye would have the most killer one of all.
I would like theater music to be written by theater composers who study the art form and understand that writing a pop song is nothing like writing for a character or arc of a story or the sounds a voice can make in the theater.
Just because I can cut a piece of steak it does not mean I am a surgeon. Surgeons prepare and study many years.
Sadly, we are losing the art form with pop music writers and movie actors on our Broadway stages. The producers and theater owners have pretty much won since this is what brings in the masses with their cell phones and sippy cups.
The problem with pop stars writing musicals is that they have no real concept of narrative storytelling. Songs nowadays have lyrics that lean towards the abstract (does anybody even know what The Deep is or how one could Roll in it?). So, that being said, Regina Spektor writes cute and catchy songs that tell fun stories, and can write a really good sad ballad. I know she was working on a musical about Sleeping Beauty a while ago (?), but I would love for her to do something new.
Fun. I feel like there is something inherently theatrical about most of their music. Would love to see what they could do with an original score

Two long deceased folk artists and storytellers , Steve Goodman and Harry Chapin, would have been great choices. I'm trying to think of any living artists who can match that potential, and I'm coming up blank.
Carly Rae Jepsen's lyrical content is gorgeous. I'd love to see what kind of show she'd write.

Most pop stars don't even write for themselves how could they handle writing a musical. If you mean like a 'biopic' musical. I can see Britney Spears. Her life is fascinating

I think Joanna Newsom could write a really beautiful score!
A Great Big World.
If he were still alive, though not a Pop Star, I would say Lou Reed and John Kale. Their songs for Drella was really quite extraordinary.
I think maybe in a while Taylor Swift could create a good musical score. Her songs tend to depict character eviction and tell stories and she's a particularly strong lyricist. She also seems to have a firm grasp on how to write several genres of music.

Not a pop star, but I'd love to see what M.I.A could do with a musical.
