You can bet on it.
I would think she would stay until the Tony Nominees are announced
There is no way in Hell MARY POPPINS will win Best Musical.
Looking at the history of award shows is never full proof. There are always exceptions to the rule (see Helen Mirren as the huge frontrunner in the Best Actress Oscar race, which for the last 20 years has been dominated by women in their 30s).
If the Tony voters feel GREY GARDENS or SPRING AWAKENING isn't commercial enough (and by this time, many of the road producers may be tired of voting for things like AVENUE Q and THE PAJAMA GAME which promised to tour to no avail) -- they will go for something like CURTAINS - this year's DROWSY CHAPERONE.
PS. I love Rebecca Luker, but I don't believe there is a consensus that she has been deprived a Tony for any of her previous Broadway efforts, though I think she should have been nominated for THE SECRET GARDEN.

She better be staying through the summer so she's there for when I go! I doubt she'd leave anytime soon though, it just opened.
When she leaves, Ashely Brown will be replaced by somebody who looks and sounds exactly like her. That is how Disney works. If you are sitting more than 10 rows back, you probably won't be able to tell if it's Brown, her understudy or a replacement.
what about a nom for Ashley???

Re: the comment that Ashley will be replaced by someone who looks and sounds like her....that is how Disney works.
She does bear a resemblance to Laura Michelle Kelly. Coincidence?
Also, was that the case in "Beauty and the Beast", or is this a relatively new thing? I don't think all Belles looked or sounded just like Susan Egan. They had Toni Braxton, for one.
Well, Toni Braxton was star casting - she didn't need to fit the exact "Belle" mold.

I think Bert and Mary Poppins will always sound/look the same (although I'm sure different actresses will take on the role differently on their own accord), but I think it's quite possible that almost all the other roles in the show will be more open to different performers and their interpretations than these two icons.

Rebecca Luker "Mrs. Banks"
Ashley Brown "Mary Poppins"
Gavin Lee "Bert"
I'll fave more to say five weeks today, after I see the show.
Why do people think Ashley is going to get nominated? She has no chance.

I believe she will. With a voice like hers, she'd better.
Please try to respect others opinions.
I respect your opinion, but really, she doesn't have much chance. Her reviews weren't all that good, and the leading actress category is very tight this year.

She does a great job (despite me having a few minor issues with it, but I put pettiness aside). However, it is not Tony worthy.
ETA: That doesn't mean I didn't enjoy her performance, though. It's just, compared with this year's possible line-up, her chances are not all that great. But if she does get a nod, all the best to her! She's a talented young actress who may have a good future in the field.

Both Luker and Jenkins have thankless parts in the show. Luker (who gives the best overall performance in the show) has a great shot at being nominated for featured actress, yet Mary Louise Wilson will walk away with it.
Ashley, on the other hand, won't get nominated at all. She's very talented, but there are people who are giving better performances.

Singing's one thing. They look at everything, I would think. It's "Best Actress", not "Best Singer".
Ashley does have the passion for being in the role that she is in. Kudos for that. No one is perfect for any role.
I don't think there will be much support of the show.
I agree that with a season filled to the brim with new, exciting musical theatre, that MARY POPPINS will have very little support from the Nominating Committee. If they're lucky, they will get one design nomination, for their sets, but I even feel that is pushing it. Giving this show any awards recognition is only going to encourage Disney to keep churning out this stuff. There are just too many Disney shows on Broadway, and it's turning into a theme park. Maybe if the theatre community stops recognizing their shows, they will somewhat get the hint that they should keep theme park attractions at the theme parks and leave Broadway to new, good innovative theatre.
They don't care about the Tonys. As long as Disney is raking in millions upon millions of dollars a month, they'll keep doing these shows, regardless of Tony nominations.
well, i thought it was a great show all around. as for tony noms, i'd say definately sets (they were amazing) and Gavin Lee for sure. other than that, i just don't know.
