I thought the performance of George Banks (Daniel Jenkins) and Winifred Banks (Rebecca Luker) deserve a nominee for best supporting actor and actress. Any thoughts?
They may deserve them (I don't think they do) but either way, they're not going to get them.
The only possibility is Gavin Lee. And I doubt even he will be nominated. Just set design if they're lucky.
if anyone, gavin lee should get it. but i doubt there will be any. their sets deserve to win

Gavin Lee will be nominated, as will the sets. Choreography will probably be recognized, and it has a very good shot at best musical.
maybe best musical nominee? i know it may not win, but i though mary poppins was amazing

Yes, it has a very good chance.
Gavin Lee definitely deserves a nomination. Sets definitely deserve a nomination. Costumes/Lighting/Choreography, maybe. Best Musical? A nomination is possible, a win is less likely although you never know. And although the score has been deemed eligible for a nomination, there is much stronger competition from SPRING AWAKENING and GREY GARDENS, as well as the in-coming CURTAINS.

Look at the history of the recent Best Musical winners. All of the shows that have commercial appeal (save for Avenue Q). Mary Poppins has significantly more commerical appeal than Grey Gardens, Spring Awakening, et al (those have a particular niche to which they play).
Yes, exactly.
I'm not saying POPPINS deserves to win anything (maybe except for set design) but I do think that at this time, it is the frontrunner for best musical, despite the rave reviews for SPRING AWAKENING and GREY GARDENS.
I didn't say it wouldn't win, I just said a win for Best Musical was less likely. That's my opinion at this point in time. It's early yet. Anything can happen...
Don't see it winning Best Musical, and even a nom is questionable since there are so many unknowns out there (Curtains, Pirate Queen, etc.). It will probably get some technical noms, and Gavin Lee is a likely nominee.

Gavin and the sets have to get a nomination. I would be pleased as punch if Gavin won.

A win is more likely than a nomination. By that I mean the Nominating Committee is less likely to select this show as one of the four Best Musical nominees, but if by some chance in hell they do nominate it, then it has a great shot with Tony voters as THEY are the ones who care about commercial appeal. The Nominating Committee could care less about that. Nominating MARY POPPINS isn't going to put any money in THEIR wallets.

I would be very pleased if it received a nomination for Score, I love the OLC. And if Legally Blonde and The Pirate Queen tank, or even aren't that great, I think it has a decent chance, the only thing standing in its way would be Martin Short. But I would love to see Drewe and Stiles on broadway more, maybe they can get Disney to produce Honk's broadway run?

I think it should get a nomination for Best Setsical- the show is basically giant fancy moving sets that people happen then "act" in.

So Ashley Brown isn't the next Sutton Foster?
Ashley Brown isn't the next anything.

Ouch. I wasn't impressed with what I saw of her acting. Singing, great. But I thought this was going to be a huge show, nominations for all. It's Disney, after all.
Sorry, I know they haven't come out yet. I meant in the opinions of people here.

Ashley Brown is the next "practically perfect replacement".

I would rather see FAME BECOMES ME receive a Best Score nod over MARY POPPINS. And I think that the Nominating Committee would favor FAME BECOMES ME over MARY POPPINS, as past Tony winner Marc Shaiman wrote the score ("Stop the Show" itself makes it worthy of the nomination).
Speaking of Poppins, they seem to be doing a lot of TV advertising very early in the run
Well they can't exactly count on the opportunity to perform on the Tony telecast. Besides, Disney has money up the wazoo. They can advertise anywhere and everywhere. Plus, TV audiences recognize Disney. POPPINS will more likely get TV watchers to buy tickets than GREY GARDENS.

Maybe Ms. Luker will get it this year to make up for the year that she REALLY SHOULD HAVE WON? You know how theatre works- you win for what you did several years earlier and it gets really weird that it helps even more because they give out the really big tributes when you're DEAD!
I have no doubt that Rebecca Luker will win a Tony someday, but it won't be for this show. She does the best that she can with this paper thin role, but really, what she is known for is her glorious soprano, and she doesn't get to use it even once in this role.

Ashley may not win, but she deserves a nod. Will she be in the show still in April?
