A Tony for best ensemble

A special Tony recognition for stage managers

A Kiss of the Spiderwoman revival with either DeBose or Lenck as Aurora. I wouldn’t object to Criss as Valentin.

Periodic returns of Skylar Astin to the stage. Was reminded by the Spring Awakening reunion what a lovely singing voice he has. Sorry I will miss his Seymour. In a recent interview, he mentioned that his dream musical role is Leo Frank in Parade

You cannot see a stage manager's work. What would the basis be? Nothing went wrong?

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I would love to see an award for playwright and production of a play. Two very different things.

The tony awards definitely need a new production team/director. Also, “This is CBS...!” Needs to be put to an end. There has to be another network willing to put this on, bravo maybe? When does the cbs contract with the tony awards run out?

I think the common wisdom is the more production heavy Best Play winners with subpar/weak scripts we get the more likely they are to re-instate the Best Author of a Play category. I don’t think Lehman Trilogy falls into that category, but War Horse and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child do. Its questionable if Curious Incident or the Dog in the Nighttime qualifies in that category, but also it is an adaptation.
I think the best case scenario to re-instate best author of a play category is for playwrights to band together to call our the difference between adaptations and original writing. We seem to be getting significantly more adaptations of preexisting material into straight plays, which unlike musical adaptations often are beat for beat copies of the source material with the production itself being the star over playwrights words. If anything I would push for Best Author of an  play to be re-instated with the caveat that only original plays are eligible, and if the playwright is not eligible in this category they are eligible in the Best Production of a Play category.

While adding even more to the already long show may not be for the best, I wish we got the brief scenes of the nominated plays back.

I feel like that wouldn't be very practical

Best Score of a Musical should be part of the telecast. What is a musical without a score??

There is an extraordinary amount of cluelessness in this thread.

1. The mechanics of nominations much less voting for these new categories is impossible.

2. The powers that be want fewer rather than more categories.

3. Special Tonys are the best way to deal with ensembles on an ad hoc basis.

4. The Tonys have taken insane steps (some possibly illegal) to keep the show on CBS. If they lose that, they become the Drama Desks. Bravo? Seriously? A suggestion like that is just so oblivious. Do people here really have so much self-entitlement that they think this is about them? or "us"? Wow. Just wow.
