Do you think she will make a good Golde? How will critics respond?

I don't dislike Rosie. But I think she'll be pretty lousy. Acting isn't her thing. And her singing voice is more painful than Harvey's if such a thing is possible.
But it will hardly be the end of the world as some posters on ATC will make it out to be. She wants to do it? Why not, if it sells a few more tickets.

Critics will be indulgent because nobody much cares about FIDDLER since it's closing in a few months.

This will be the funniest thing I've ever seen. And NOT in a good way.

I'm trying to get really cheap tickets to go and see her because I got such a good laugh from harvey, I might have to go to the doctors after seeing both of them together

I heard they are now re-writing the book. In the new version, Rosie eats Tzietel and then runs off to Siberia with Yente. But you didn't hear that from me...re: Predictions for Rosie

I am probably one of thew few who think that if Rosie was to be in a part, this is the one. The role is NOT about being able to sing...it is about acting and being funny. I do believe Rosie has proven her ability to be funny.

I didn't like her in anything else she has done on Broadway, but I think this will be her first good role on broadway.

As for Harvey...if he trusted the script a little more, and his own Harvey-isms a little less, he'd be good in the show. When, I saw him, he didn't believe the script was funny enough to make people enjoy it...so, he relied on the weird vocal things he can do to get laughs. Disappointing at best.

trustme -- anytime you are going for a laugh, you're not going to get the best response. A big part of GOOD comedy is making the situation believable and the laugh comes out of the outrageous situation. I don't think Rosie is going to be believable in this role -- and I KNOW she's going to sound horrid singing it.

Her performance will get raves all across the board, from Brantley, Barnes and the gang.

She will be so good - that the Tony commitee will finally make the BEST REPLACEMENT Category just to nominate Rosie for her amazing critically acclaimed performance.

Golde does NOT have a lot of singing to do. Rosie will be fine. She can carry a pretty tune. I didnt think she was horrid when she sang on her Christmas shows she had. C'mon, let's face it Golde is NOT a Belty role.

I think it's futile and b!tchy to expect the worst before a person has even stepped onstage. If she fails in the role, fine--post your criticism. But good grief.

A horrible decision that ruins a beautiful show. She doesn't have the acting ability to do it, and "funny" won't carry her through.

I predict a huge diva fight between Harvey and Rosie, resulting in one of them leaving the show.

i agree with Jrb..

leave it alone until it happens. Don't judge. It is horrible to judge. It's the bitchiest thing to do.

I saw Fiddler recently,..and I have to say...I was paying special attention to Golde's role...specifically because of Rosie....and let me tell you...I believe she will do JUST FINE and it is pretty darn PERFECT for her. Hardly any singing...and whatever it is vocally,..she can handle with ease using her schtick..and you have to remember...Rosie IS a comedian..she is FUNNY..she always was...despite her antics recently she has been a solid comedian for almost 20 years now..her film career has proven some great moments (league of their own, flintstones, now and then)...and I think she will do FAR BETTER than the actress playing GOlde now...because she was as dead as dead can be...she was dropping every line and not making it her own. I believe Rosie is a very strong person...she will make it her own.

(and don't judge my input just because my fan name is "taboo' either...I enjoyed Taboo yes....but I also thought it had its flaws and ROsie's public involvement was one of them)...so there ya go!

Considering how much Rosie supports Broadway, I think we should be a little bit more willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, at least until she's up there on stage. Then we'll see.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of this idea at first. But I just finished doing Fiddler, and looking back....I think Rosie can easily pull off Golde. So I'm going to refrain from any more bashing until I see it for myself. Who knows? She may surprise us all.:)

I think that you guys should give the woman a chance before she even steps on stage.

Agree with the "wait and see-ers."

I don't see her as right for the part -- and that has nothing to do with singing ability. But I won't call it a train wreck until I see the smoking tanker cars for myself.

i hope for harvey's sake that she is wonderful and funny and warm and able to be present and play with him. i think one problem with rosie is that she doesn't have the discipline to do something 8 times a week and she gets bored very easily.

I think she can totally handle Golde, she's a good enough actress and can stay on key...which is pretty much all Golde needs to be able to do.

I just don't see why some many people have such a problem with this. Of all the roles in the musical theatre, few would suit her better. Golde is a small-ish role, very funny (sounds like Rosie) and is often played as a nagging bitch/shrew with an underlying warmth (sounds like Rosie to me) and she only sings solo maybe two minutes in the whole show -- half of "Do You Love Me?" and every Golde I've ever heard has been shrill sounding with a nails across the blackboard voice, including the original, Maria Karnilova (sounds like Rosie to me).

Other than her not being Jewish, what's the main complaint? (and incidentally, when she was approached, she really wanted to play Yenta, not Golde). It's a small role that requires virtually no real musical theatre skills -- just the ability to deliver some one liners which she can do in spades. And I think she'll be just fine in the dramatic moments. She was terrible in her other Broadway forays -- because they required actual singing talent -- but she should be fine in this role (and I say that, though I'm not much of a fan of hers). It's actor-proof.
