Primary Stages has canceled entire run of ON THAT DAY IN AMSTERDAM

I received an oddly worded and rather vague email from Primary Stages today that the entire run of On That Day In Amsterdam has been canceled.

The email doesn't say exactly why the production is canceled, but leads me to wonder if it might be financial trouble.

I have tickets for next week and there is no mention of refunds in the email, which is also odd.

I feel so bad for the playwright, actors and crew.

Does anyone know anything more about the production?

Wow, that's crazy and incredibly awful for all involved. Just yesterday, they announced a new cast member, and had to push back previews. And now the whole thing is canceled just one day later? Damn.

Sad, indeed.

I just received an email, a few minutes ago, from OvationTix, regarding refunds, but it didn't shed any additional light on the situation. It just quoted the original email from Primary Stages.

I hope all involved find alternative projects quickly. With the holidays approaching, I'm sure this is doubly disappointing.

It has become clear that our goal for On That Day in Amsterdam has not been met, and that as a result, the play's potential is not yet fully realized. While we do not take lightly the decision to postpone a production, it is essential that we regroup and reflect on how to best serve the artists and our mission moving forward, and for us to present Clarence Coo's play at a later date.”

I wonder if they’ll give partial refunds for subscriptions? I bought in because I wanted to see Little Women and Billy Porter and figured I might as well see the rest of the season. Now there’s no Billy Porter and no replacement, and I am feeling somewhat cranky. Guess it’s time to make a phone call.

That's a shame. I only know Clarence Coo's one-act play, Removing the Glove, which was an absolute HOOT. I've often tried finding more of his work to produce.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I imagine working out refunds on this scale, especially for subscribers, is going to be a tough job. But I am sure they will make everyone whole.

Many years ago I had a subscription to the NY Shakespeare Festival and was looking forward to seeing Richard Dreyfus in JULIUS CAESAR. I received a letter in the mail (no internet in those days) which advised it was being canceled and offered me a replacement ticket to any NYSF shows that were soon to open. I picked one that was described as a "backstage musical" which was starting previews the following month. The show turned out to be A CHORUS LINE.
