I don't know much about actor's fund performances but do the actors get paid as well for the charity performance or is their time donated as well for the good cause?

well, bette's clearly not doing an extra performance. Roger has no love for Rudin, clearly (he is not alone) but he is reporting on half a loaf. When Rudin donates the equivalent to the Actors Fund (and it will hardly be because Friedman asked a question) will Roger report on that? Oh, and what's with his coming to the defense of the cast re the midnight show. Surely he has been around long enough to know they and their union would have to sign off on it. Methinks someone has a grudge for not getting tickets. not classy.

Meow, that was catty...not that I'm terribly surprised.

Oh, well.....their choice...but they aren't going to have Bette do an 8th show. Period.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

And they sell very partial view box seats for full price $225.00. The show is amazing. But no question. The producers are greedy. I wonder if Bette herself is aware of any of this? She has always been a very charitable performer and contributor.

I wonder if Bette gets a % of ticket sales? And I'd say them not doing an actors fund performance is simply Bette not wanting to do an 8th show.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

At this point, it seems unlikely. The producer is offering a midnight showing of "Doll's House 2" to benefit the Actors Fund. It's greed, plain and clear. If "Dear Evan Hansen" can contribute directly to the A.F., then "Hello Dolly" can as well. I wonder if some Tony voters will consider this when making their final selection. I "was" so gung ho about buying the Dolly recording. Now, not so much.

Isn't it a requirement to do a benefit performance in the AEA Production Contract? Maybe Rudin is doing an equivalent donation instead?

I wouldn't put that much weight on the referenced piece by Roger Friedman . Bette is in it till January. Plenty of time.

Bette is not going to do an extra show. The production will pay the proceeds to the Actors Fund, as alluded to in the article, though roundly ignored here because, I suppose, it does not fit the narrative.

Why would the Tony voters factor this in? If they're going by what's required of them... which is to look for excellence in the theatre... why should the question about a singular, charitable performance affect that?

Hamilton gave a charity performance for actors fund in Nov 2016, well over a year after it opened. Who knows maybe Hello Dolly will give a charity performance later in the year or next year.

I think this is a non-story. Hello Dolly will certainly do an Actors Fund performance at some point in the future. Its the Actors Fund performance, its a tradition you don't skip, its a honor to do an Actors Fund performance. (And with her history of charitable works, I assume Bette will perform.) A Dolls House Part 2 is clearly scheduling their special performance to give out of town tony voters in town that week an additional opportunity to see the show.

I know feelers have been put out to several ladies both actual movie/recording stars and broadway divas to gauge their interest in taking over for Bette.

I think the chance Bette will do an extra performance is zero, and I think the chance of an extra performance without her is also close to zero. I think, as I have said and as the articles have noted, the requisite proceeds will be provided by other means. And I also don't think any other person will make this show workable when Bette leaves.
