im still skeptical about rosario, but only sept/oct/nov promotions and the final trailer and the film itself will be the things for me to judge...but I swear if they basically bank her and not the rest of the cast...there will be hell to pay...the film aint all about rosario, its more about adam, idina, anthony, jesse, wilson, taye and tracie...just hopefully they get press too for this.
i don't think they will do that. rent has and always will be an ensemble piece. it isn't about any one character or any one actor.
i'm sure evryone will be spotlighted. what makes this film special is that almost the entire original cast was reunited for this film which is extremely rare for a film adaptation of a broadway musical. rosario dawson may be well known but the producers know very well that they can't sell the movie on just the strength of her name alone.
RENT is bigger and so much more than that.

It's just as much about Rosario as it is about Adam, Wilson, Jesse, et al - I mean, Mimi is the love interest. You need her just as much as you need Roger. Actually, while RENT *is* an ensemble piece, Roger, Mark and Mimi are probably best considered the "leads." Rosario is their biggest star, and because this is a pretty big-budget movie, they're *going* to use her name, but nothing about the material is going to change. Mimi's character isn't suddenly going to get bigger because someone more famous is playing her than is playing Roger. They may even try to bank on the fact that they have part of the OBC, because, like Marquise said, that is so rare. It'll be a happy day when I see Adam or Anthony's name in huge letters on a poster.
I always viewed Taye Diggs as the biggest star... obviously, Idina and Adam and Anthony are well known around these parts in Broadway, but why is Rosario? I personally don't think she is that well known... I haven't seen her in anything since Josie, and just now Sin City is going out...

she also was in the movie "Shattered Glass." i dont know, i heard the clips of her singing "without you." and to be honest, i like it. Rosario has a soft, melodic voice (it sounds like). and it is somewhat hypnotizing..."Light my candle" and "Out tonight" are going to be something to see...i'm excited..

not to turn this into a "who is the bigger star" thread but rosario has been in:
"Sidewalks of New York", "Trigger Happy", "Chelsea Walls", "King of the Jungle", "Men in Black II", "The 25th Hour", "This Girl's Life", "Shattered Glass", "The Rundown", "Alexander", "This Revolution" and "Sin City" all in between the release of "Josie and The Pussycats" and the filming of "Rent".
True none of the above can be classified as bona-fide box office blockbusters but it definitely illustrates that she is consistently *out there* and highly visible and very much well known.

she is consistantly in movies...but i dont know..maye its just me...she's easily overlooked and forgotten when the credits roll. I even keep forgetting that she's in Sin City....but still.....i cant wait to see her take on Mimi, the audio i heard was great.

i think it's most definitely *just you*. unless of course you have facts and statistics to back the above statement up.

my opinions are mine and mine only...i actually just looked over at my dvd case..and i have 4 movies featuring Rosario Dawson..and ummm...im shocked..i didnt realize that...like i said..maybe it is just me...but Rosario is not a HUGE star, and easily overlooked, and forgotten when the credits roll and the dvd goes back on the shelf.

Hmmm, I wonder why they lowered the song for her, though. It's not a high song to begin with...
That said, I'm kind of excited for Rosario. I think she and the film will be great.

Is it definitely lowered?
I admit, she is better than I thought she was going to be.
Maybe she is an alto II?

i have
Shattered Glass
The Rundown
MIB II
and --------- (a secret)
Yeah, in the clip, the song was in C. The original key is D, which is low enough for an alto already. It only goes up to an A in the original key. I mean, Mimi definitely sings higher than A's in every other song. So I wonder why they lowered it. Does this mean that every one of her songs is lowered? Hmmm...

O no, don't get me wrong, it sounds pretty, really pretty. I think the song itself is really pretty. *sigh*

I don't think it really matters if they do, unless it is an uncomfortable range for Adam... because they usually sing together.

no worries...adam's vocal range is amazing...
Ugh, I guess I'll just have to deal.
I really like it though.
O the curse of having perfect pitch...haha.
