Thought that was a very good interview for him handled the Rosario/Daphne comments very well.

But personal issue...Phantom movie was terrible? Adam...

Sorry have to agree with Adam on Phantom! I'm not a huge fan of the show itself, but the movie was one of the worst pieces of drivel I have ever seen!

Oh, please. I'm so not surprised that Adam didn't like Phantom. I loved it, but the problems? Everywhere and blatantly obvious; he's not stupid. He's open about the fact that he's not one for that sort of theatre, so I have to say I'm surprised that he loved the show. I'm sorry, but I love his honesty. And I love that he has the guts to say that Rent isn't always as good as it can be -- I'm sure someone will come out and say that he's being egotistical, though, and that he's giving a slam to people who aren't him. Face it guys, he's right.

re: film deals -- it's too soon to tell. Give him a chance. (Did I just say that?)

Anyway, nice interview. I'm glad he finally got to talk for more than two seconds somewhere. re: RENT/interview with Adam and Rosario

Em, I wasn't being upset in a professional, that was wrong of him to say kinda way, I was being upset over well you know how much I love the movie in a whiney nofe air kinda way...I mean, you know I adore the film but what was my justification to you that i know I'll love the Rent movie..."Even if it's not perfect...I mean come on I adore the Phantom movie and I'll admit how many flaws that has, Rent can't have as many," I admit enough. Sorry if it came out as heavy criticism, it was more my own silliness. I certainly didn't view that as egotistical as that would mean many many many people are egotistical in how they feel about the Phantom movie, though I think you were referring to rent in which case he's absolutely right--he didn't say no one was as good as they were, but of course it's true that many weren't.

I know. I'm just saying it's not a surprise. And in all honesty, that's probably, at this point, the best thing to compare it to.

And yeah; I meant that I'm going to be pissed if people start saying he's a jerk for not thinking Rent is *always* good; it's very obvious that part of the downfall is from casting problems, and he's had trouble with criticizing subsequent casts before.

I guess. I mean it certainly won't hurt the movie to compare it to that since so many critics especially disliked it but obviously as a huge fan of that it's hard for me to say it's okay for critics to say if nothing else it was better than Phantom...okay just checking you realized my intention. I mean, not upset but secretly wish instead of well anyone saying something like it's better than Phantom which was terrible, (more critics than actors to be honest), to say something like well it certainly should be more appealing to audiences than the Phantom movie was and do better at the box office(I'm not counting on it, considering the critics had so much fun calling it terrible when it came out, don't see why they wouldn't take the oppertunity again)

My poor Gerry. Actually, there's a bright side for you Em, not so bright side for me. If you're still concerned about how Adam's acting will be received, I'm sure it won't be received as badly as Gerry's singing re: RENT/interview with Adam and Rosario (which I of course still defend but I need to stop taking every oppertunity possible to talk about my avatar..)

There's no way what he does on that screen is going to be recieved as bad acting, or as badly as Gerard's singing was. If he was bad, you know I'd call him on it, and I just don't think he was. He's wonderful.

What I'm saying is that the people working on Rent tried to do things right that explicity went wrong with Phantom; for example, the casting. I think what he means in that last line is that they tried to prevent Rent from suffering from the problems Phantom had.

You're right I totally see your point. This really makes me admire weaknesses you can admit in Adam more so, b/c well it is difficult for me to do w/ Gerry. I mean, I'm not gonna say he has the world's best singing voice, but I still defend it, oh well.

One thing I certainly hope they do a better job of Rent than Phantom: LIP SYNCHING. Gah, that killed me.

Maybe I should let phantom sit in my mind as a flawed wonderful movie, reminding myself of the awful reviews is depressing me...

Yeah ANYWAY great interview, I too love Adam's honesty, I think he's getting to be a better speaker in some aspects, good for if he wants to move to LA. And yeah i agree it's a tad early to see if this will leave to new film projects.

But Em if you feel he's really good, the role itself certainly situates itself for a Golden Globe nomination, b/c they divide musical from drama but it's still a very dramatic role...so even a good/decent job I think has a strong chance at a nomination, and maybe that would help lead to roles...here's hoping...well...kinda.

"Rosario (Dawson) and Tracie (Thoms) were the best possible people for these roles and I'm thankful and I think the audience will be thankful that they are in this movie."

HERE HERE! Maybe now people will stop complaining about Daphne not being in it.

Just for the record, I think the Phantom movie was beautifully shot...but that doesn't make up for the bad acting, bad singing, bad casting (Minnie Driver?!) obvious lip-synching, etc. And just based on all the posts on here from last winter when it opened, there were quite a few people that agree with Adam.

On a slightly separate note, I hope that Adam's happy that the fans will probably be happy with Rosario and Trace in the movie, and that Rosario and Tracie are also happy that the happy fans accept them. re: RENT/interview with Adam and Rosario
