I'm sorry to be writing just a quick blurb. I'll write a full review later tonight. But, in a word: BORING. Jude Law's soliloquies were great. He shows a lot of genuine rage but not enough humanity or humor to make you care. Everyone else is bland, bland, bland with a moment or two from each of them that is right on the money. The lighting and set nearly put me to sleep with all its starkness and shadows. And the unnecessary sound effects and music were just stupid.
VERY big disappointment.

Posted: 9/13/09 at 8:42pmI can get how lighting would help put one to sleep but how does a set make one tired. Was it made out of Magic Eye photographs?

"The lighting and set nearly put you to sleep? Do you have sleep apnea?"
Unless he was already asleep, sleep apnea wouldn't be a problem for him.

Despite this negative review, I can't wait to see this HAMLET. Jude Law is a personal friend of mine and I know how much this production means to him.

Ya know, I kinda agree with Color the Hours. It wasn't bad, it was just not what I expected. I was a bit let down also.
I wish they would have brought over David Tennant's version instead.

Yeah, it was boring in London too. Sorry for sending this one over to you guys, hopefully we'll make it up by sending something good next time, like WAR HORSE.

Posted: 9/13/09 at 9:22pmActually, KAD, people with undiagnosed sleep apnea fall asleep unexpectedly because they are so exhausted from not getting quality sleep at night. They can fall asleep while driving, on public transportation, and the minute lights go down in any situation.

Mary Stuart had cold lighting and a black wall, but I was enthralled both times I saw it, so I wouldn't blame it on the design.
How long was it?
