73 years old. Steinman wrote several #1 hits for Celine Dion, Air Supply, and Meat Loaf, among others. He adapted Bat Out of Hell for the stage and also wrote the infamous Dance of the Vampires.

His cause of death is currently unknown.

Saw a show he did years ago. Off Broadway musical about Vietnam called More Than You Deserve. All I remember about it was Free Gwyne was in it. One,song title was Go Go Go Guerillas

To long ago to remember anything else about it.

I have fond memories of listening to the demo tracks for Dance of the Vampires back in college. From what I understand the actual NY production was a disaster, but the music (from the original Tanz) sure was catchy. As are a great number of Steinman's songs.

Not a Broadway show, but nonetheless two of my favorite songs he wrote were included in the 1984 cult film, "Streets of Fire" which starred Michael Paré, Diane Lane, Amy Madigan, Willem Dafoe and Rick Moranis: "Nowhere Fast" and "Tonight is What it Means To Be Young". He reworked the latter and included it in "Dance of the Vampires" May he RIP.

MORE THAN YOU DESERVE is a musical he wrote with Michael Weller (who wrote the screenplay for the film version of HAIR) - amongst he cast: Fred Gwynne, Mary Beth Hurt, Leata Galloway, Meat Loaf, Kim Milford, Stephen Collins and Ron Silver it was produced by Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival and had two runs at The Public in 1973.

Jim Steinman was one of the greats of Rock 'n' Roll. "Bat out of Hell" is as perfect as you can get.

I always wished I had seen the german version of "Dance of the Vampires". The Broadway one was doomed as soon as they cast Michael Crawford.

I concur. I always wished that Streets of Fire was crafted into a musical. I always thought it would be thrilling for Ellen Aim to be performing and her kidnappers enter from the back of the house, walk down the aisle and take her.

He'd truthfully been in bad shape even before DOTV, but it got progressively worse in the past several years.

As someone who attempted to broker work with the man, and knew him as a person, my feelings are... mixed. To say the least. As a person, I will probably never completely mourn him. But his beautiful music, the best thing about him, enriched society and art in general.

May his body of work be forever remembered.

Jeremy Jordan did a brilliant job of belting ''It's All Coming Back to Me'' at ''Broadway Loves Celine Dion'' at 54 Below in 2015. The video's at YouTube, and racked up nearly 9 million views. Even Steinman saw it and posted in the comments: ''As I wrote and produced the song for Celine--I'm very impressed and pleased with JEREMY'S ability to scale the Olympian operatic heights and imbue it with humor, seamlessly! All in all, BRILLIANT!! And thank you.''

One of my all-time favorite composers, and a profound loss to me. My husband and I saw and very much enjoyed Bat Out of Hell: The Musical during its New York run and are hoping the tour, which was cancelled due to the pandemic, gets rescheduled.
