I wouldn't be surprised if they used "special casting" for the L.A. and (possibly) San Fran tour stops.
Then, the rest of the country sees a different "Margaret." It's happened like that many times before.
Piazza opens in L.A. in October, I believe.

I LOVE Carolee Carmello, but I really just can't picture her as Margaret.
I do think that MArin Mazzie would be amazing.

What if they do Piazza's orchestra like the Sweeney revival? Have Margaret play the tuba, have Clara play the French horn.
Oh, and Dollypop, I meant in my message that you said "La Swit" (which now I'm guessing is Loretta Swit - which is not funny at all) would be a good Margaret. Sorry you misunderstood.

Is there a way (letter-writing, protests, donations) to make sure that the "Piazza" tour comes through Dallas???? I SO WANT TO SEE THIS SHOW!

I wish Lousie Pitre could head up a Toronto company of this, but I just don't think Toronto would embrace the show like New York did, which is a shame.

Does anyone know where I can find the most recent list of all the stops the tour is making?
I found this (https://www.broadwayworld.com/showinfo.cfm?showid=2290), but more stops have been announced since then.

You know who else would be killer?
Judith Blazer. Requisite combo of humor, acting and singing chops...
It's too bad Michelle Pawk probably doesn't have the legit voice for this because I think, character-wise, she's a great fit.

Correct me if I am wrong but Victoria Clarke doesnt have the same vocal quality as Patti Cohenour... ie she has a "heavier" timbre to her voice and yet still soars up to those Fs and Gs.
Now Carolee may well come across as a belter but I always thought with that vibratto and top range she has she is just as "legit" as Victora Clarke in the role. I say that thinking about Carolee singing on Parade OBC, Jeykll & Hyde and imaginging how she dazzled in another Victoria Clarke role...Miss Pennywise!

Well, Pennywise is anything but legit.
Victoria is DEFINITELY a thicker soprano than Patti (who is/was a coloratura) but the range of the role is good for them both.
And, oh my god. I can't even believe I didn't think of Christine Andreas before.
Perfect casting.

Depends on who is singing it... Nancy Opel mixed all those high Gs then did a very legit high C at the end of the song.
From reviews of the tour and other productions it seems other Pennywises opted for a consistently "legit" approach (ie they didnt have Nancy Opel's phenomenal pipes!)
Curious how Carolee and Victoria sang the role. I always thought of both performers as belters who also had a legit top range. Like Judy Kaye, Anne Runolffson and Liz McCartney.

Victoria did it like Nancy, only she sounded better.
Carolee belted the crap out of it and sounded amazing doing it.
Nancy Opel mentioned somewhere that she sort of stuck it to that part by asking them if she could belt it towards the final callbacks (it was written for a soprano originalyl and they never altered the keys).
The original understudy, Kay Wallbye, went on often and sang it with a legit, musical theatre soprano sound.

Wow. Okay now even more annoyed that it a month before my trip to Broadway that year! I had terrible timing... Hugh Jackman was on holiday, missed Carolee in Urinetown (thank god she was in baby though), Earth Kitt and Rebecca Luker in Nine and the final cast of Cabaret.
I so need to come do my doctorate somewhere on the North East

Why strike for the general vicinity when there are loads of colleges and universities right here in the city?
I also missed Carolee in the Urinetown. fortunatley, certain people are obsessed with vocally documenting every cast of a show so I did get to hear her. It was quite impressive and I'll admit (again, despite my incredible love of La Carmello) that I wasn't expecting her to score the way she scored in this role.

Costs of studying in the US are bad enough without the added costs of living in NYC
Thought that wont stop me looking into it and seeking funding when the times comes!

You could shoot for Jersey instead. They actually have, oh, one or two decent schools two still within striking distance.
If you widen it to the northeast, you could end up in Maine, you know. I don't think that'd help you much besides place you on the correct continent.

#44re: RUMOR- Piazza Tour Casting- Margaret
Posted: 5/12/06 at 3:13amI agree with best12bars, this show will need some"special casting", at least in some markets. I think it will be a hard sell, a recognisable name wouldn't hurt.

Pattiiiiiiiii
I would die if Patti did get offered/accepted this roll. As she said to me, she hadn't been offered when we spoke and had already said she wouldn't do Signora for the tour. She deserves this role, but said someone like Marie Osmond would get it for the sake of having a name in the role.
That would be death, Patti was so amazing when I saw her live and would be a total gift on this tour for people to see. I doubt the producers will see and act on this, but it would be nice.

I saw Christine on tour in "Stardust" in the late 80s with Betty Buckley.
Personally I don't think she's right for Margaret. Too much vibrato.
#48re: RUMOR- Piazza Tour Casting- Margaret
Posted: 5/12/06 at 9:19amYeah, Christine's vibratto can be like a machine gun some times. I don't see her as Margaret.

I agree, Hanna. But there's a rumour that she's a strong choice.
Not that she'd tour, but could anyone besides me see Maria Friedman?
