Disappointed for Michelle Williams.
This list of nominees just isn't exciting for some reason this year.

they nominated Lauren Worsham instead of Marin Mazzie as Helen Sinclair
they nominated Mary Bridget Davies instead of Michelle Williams as Sally Bowles
was also rooting for Charlotte Parry in The Winslow Boy. and Annie Golden.
but I agree with the rest. kinda glad Rebecca Hall wasn't nominated.

I'm genuinely shocked that Mazzie didn't get nominated. I didn't see Emond or Lenox in their respective roles, but I think any of the other 3 nominees could easily be swapped out for Marin (to a lesser degree, I'm also sad Zach Braff didn't get nominated)

It's also worth pointing out again, the members of the Tony nominating committee do not confer on the nominations. So you can't say "they" made this or that decision. These are simply the way the individual preferences came together. And the rules about using the extra slot in each category were pretty clear, there had to be less than three votes separating the fourth and fifth slots in order for the fifth slot to be implemented.

I do wonder if Bridges will now fold up and stop burning money, with only 4 nominations (and none of them ticket-boosting ones).

Well that's my New York trip cancelled I just find the nominations to be devastating, they took the worst parts of Aladdin and nominated them!!!!. They were random and not at all good solid nominations what were they thinking. TOO BAD IT WAS AN AWFUL YEAR. But last year they had Matilda and when Kinky Boots won I lost all hopes for the tonys

Also, Kate Burton was Leading for HEDDA GABLER and Featured for THE ELEPHANT MAN in 2002.
I'm not sure I would have chosen Reed Birney as CASA VALENTINA's sole Featured Actor nominee (if I could even pick one...and why no Direction nomination?). He was certainly very good, but I may have built my expectations too highly after hearing this board praise him so. I remember being transfixed by Larry Pine's face as he listened to Birney's accusations.

A shame the nominating committee did not use the 5th spot for Bridges or Rocky
Best score for the mostly unoriginal Aladdin. Huh
No nod for Pasquale
If's score gets a nod. Why?
A shame but this probably means the end for Bridges. How long will Rocky hang on? We shall see.

It's easier to think that "they" decided not to use it

What does one have to do with the other? If the shows you wanted to see get no nominations, you stay home?!

I agree with henrik - the second Samuel Barnett's name was read as the first nomination, I had a feeling the nominations would be in relatively good hands. There were a lot of hard choices to be made this year (and that's a great thing, having too much in many categories) and at first glance they seem to have done a worthy job of sober reflection and consideration.
Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

As much as I love Bridges, it does seem over now. I wonder if Bridges or Velocity of Autumn will announce their closing first?

Yes, Samuel Barnett was a glorious, most-deserved surprise!

Samuel Barnett and Tony Shalhoub over Zachary Quinto? What the F?

Did you read Michael Bennett's explanation of how the fifth slot actually works? They don't choose to use it.
"If's score gets a nod. Why?"
The committee heard how lovely it is.

I didn't see Shalhoub, but was shocked to see Zachary Quinto snubbed like that, Roscoe. The whole cast should have gotten in, and Quinto, who had such a tough role but played it so well, should have been rewarded.

Also, is it just me, or is the Best Play race completely up in the air now (if it ever wasn't)? Initially I thought the nominations might have tipped it one way or the other towards Act One or Casa Valentina, but they've gotten fairly similar numbers.

Well, I'm not going to rant, but there are many performers I am glad to see nominated, especially Andy Karl, Sutton Foster, Idina Menzel, Anika Noni Rose and plenty of others. It's great to see that Ramin Karimloo got nominated after all.

I was so happy when Samuel Barnett's name was read. I thought his performance was brilliant.
I should probably buy a ticket for Bridges soon. Want to see it before it closes.

SO happy for the HEDWIG love! Was expecting Revival and NPH and not much else. SO thrilled Lena Hall and Michael Mayer got recognized and SHOCKED that the design elements were remembered.
Also surprised the 5th slot was not used. I truly enjoyed and thought ROCKY was deserving of a nod (even if not the win). And I have friends in BRIDGES and for their sake was keeping my fingers crossed for them.

I do think they selected the right 4 shows to be nominated for Best New Musical.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I was really rooting for more nods for Rocky, and I truly think Michelle Williams deserved a spot. I'm baffled, though, that The Realistic Joneses was shut out.

The nominators clearly LOVED Twelfth Night. I am pretty surprised Rylance got both nominations. It's one thing to get two nominations in a year when the field (especially the Leading field) isn't super competitive, but this year it was STACKED.
I'm pretty disappointed for Bridges, but my only nominations I'm actively mad about are Les Mis for Sound Design over Bridges, Of Mice And Men for Lighting Design over Casa Valentina, Cripple of Inishmaan for Sound Design over Glass Menagerie, and Bullets Over Broadway for Book.
Also, I would have picked Santino over Tony for Act One, and I feel super bad for Dan Radcliffe who just can't seem to impress the nominators for this specific award. He does so well with the other award committees.
