Once more, Tony nomination day is upon us (May 1).
Every year we get all this outrage from posters who think that their indignation for the nominations justifies starting a number of threads which make the boards impossible to follow and unreadable.
So, before you post your "How could (your favorite performer) be nominated over (performer you think sucked)?" thread or your WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????? rant or your (Name of the show you worship) was robbed! thread, just post all your frustrations here!
Vent, rant, bitch- but , please, don't start a new thread just because you think you can. :)
Thanks, loves.
my complaint is that they haven’t even announced the nominations and you’re already ranting
As long as most rants are posted in one thread...

You don't have control of the internet, love, so people can post a million threads bitching about them. Which will happen since you know it happens every year. Trying to control it will just frustrate you.

I'm surprised Kenita Miller's performance or the wonderful Once on This Island ensemble went unnoticed.

Why are there SIX nominees fore Best Leading Actress in a Musical?
Disappointed that Sam Clemett did not receive a nom, also Kate Rockwell and Alex Newell.

Was hoping that Summer or Escape to Margaritaville would get a best musical nomination over that tuneless bore, The Band's Visit.
Darn it.

I was surprised Frozen didn't get a lighting nomination.
No acting nominations for FROZEN is disappointing!
And what on earth is up with those acting noms for SUMMER?
The biggest snub was our collective ears for having to listen to "Hammer-steen."
(Also Frozen for lighting... I didn't realize they weren't nominated until Great Dame's comment. That's kind of nuts given the ice effects in that show that are all done with lighting.)

We do this every year here. The only ones who fill up the board with nonsense are the folks who have not been here long, such as yourself. Just be good and play by the unwritten, but established, rules.
Alex Newell should have been nominated for Once On This Island.

This is not really a rant but...
Best Play... I'm surprised by how weak this category is. Then again, I can't remember better original plays that got snubbed.
Best Musical... Wow, so they let Frozen in there.
Best Revival... Carousel?
Best Book... Wow. This has to go to The Band's Visit, right?
Lead Actress in a Play... I'm glad Lauren got a nomination.
Lead Actress in a Musical... Did they just nominate someone from every show? Who is shut out besides Frozen? I need to see MFL, Mean Girls, and Carousel but this is a little underwhelming.
Why do they love Lobby Hero so much?
Featured Actor in a Musical... Interesting.
A lot of love for Carousel in the acting nominations.
Costume Design of a Musical... Is the Carousel nomination a joke?
I totally forgot about 1984.

It wasn't eligible for best score because not enough of the music was original to the play.
Wow....given the space to rant, and no really does.
I can't believe Gideon Glick was not nominated for Significant Other. The guy is never off the stage and...oh, wait, that was last year.
Sorry, still not over that.
After having some time to digest the list... there are a lot of surprises from my (and many others' original predictions, but nothing I'm too mad at. We were all in denial about the power of Fleming + Rigg, haha.
The one thing that gets me steamed up is Once On This Island not getting a choreography nomination. That was one of my favorite parts of the show. Actually didn't love it the first time, but by viewing #3 I realized how perfectly imperfect it is.
Also, Carousel over Band's Visit for costumes... no.

I thought the same thing. Her performance caught me completely off guard. It was so moving.
The biggest snub was our collective ears for having to listen to "Hammer-steen."
Using Harvey Fierstein as an example, a steadfast rule of German pronunciation is that the "ie" should be pronounced as in the word "fear" and the "ei" should be pronounced as in "stine" (or "wine". Therefore, Harvey's last name should be "Fear-stine" (most likely, it was originally some derivation of Vierstein as the "v" is pronounced like an "f", directly translating as "four stone"
. Having studied German language for sveral years, every time I see his name and hear someone say it, my brain hiccups because it doesn't make sense. At any rate, everybody says "Wine-steen" and "Fire-steen" incorrectly, so I guess "Hammer-steen" shouldn't be a big deal, either. In general, Americans don't really seem to give a crap about pronouncing anything correctly, especially foreign words and surnames. My last name is Polish and pronounced EXACTLY how it is spelled (again, using the American phonetics). It's really not tricky at all if you bother to actually look at it, but 99% of those saying it ever bother to try and actually read it.
I minored in German, and I feel the exact same way. ^ It’s even weirder that people don’t have issues pronouncing the vowels in Einstein’s name correctly, but every other name just goes right out the window.
