Tonya and Fantasia sound NOTHING alike....

One has a great voice...the other doesn't...

Thenardier, Don't be too hard on Tonya. Her voice isn't that bad.

Just because Fantasia is hot on the R&B charts - dosen't mean she is among the most talented in R&B. There are so many R&B females who blow her out of the water.

If you think about it, Kelly is competing with all of America. Every single musician in the industry. If that's not competition, what is? Honestly? After I saw Kelly win the first AI, I knew this girl was going places. I just stopped watching after that one (the whole sequel thing...)

Fantasia...I can't say she's not a great singer because I've never heard her sing. But I'm content with what I listen to right now.

Wow... Uh... Wow... In one ear...

Let's agree to disagree. I can't talk to someone who doesn't listen.

Back to the topic at hand, I suppose with Beyonce, Foxx and Murphy in the movie, they can afford to take a gamble on a niche artist like Fantasia and an unknown for Effie. I was hoping Frenchie would win the Effie role, but I don't see it happening now that there's another AI Alumnus in the mix. How sad for her to possibly miss out on two big movie musical roles now.

Yes, I have my av as Tonya. Think Fantasia is horrible. And then said Tonya has the lesser voice.

Aigoo, yes, that's the point I was trying to make but I don't think she wants to understand. re: Re: Fantasia part in Dreamgirls To argue that an artist doesn't have any competition when she's been on the most versatile, biggest chart in the country for almost 8 months now is to miss the point entirely. Talk about looking at things backwards.

ljay, you're proving my point by saying that Fantasia has very stiff compeition in the world of R&B. I never said she was the best in R&B. I said that she has a lot of competition.

Aigoo, obviously everyone is competing with everyone in the industry to a certain degree.

Jomarch, No you don't seem to understand. Her being on the charts does not show she had great competition. She's on the charts because she doesn't have any competition. Who are her peers? Ashlee Simpson and Christina Aguilera? If Christina and Kelly had CD's out at the same time, Kelly would'n't have stayed as high as she has on the charts this long. Just wait until Grammy time. Kelly will no doubt be nominated. Take note to who she's up against. It will probably be some very lame competition. If Fantasia is nominated, check out hers. Hey, she even has to compete with "Big Patti" who just released a CD last month.

But like I said before this thread is about the wonderful talent, Fantasia, it's not about Kelly Clarkson.

If it is about the wonderful talent of Fantasia then I can say I don't think she has wonderful talent.

I thought this thread was about Fantasia's possible inclusion in Dreamgirls. Not Kelly and Fantasia's chart positions.

Right, Dreamboy. I'm willing to bet most of these people don't know a thing about DG.

I don't know anything about anyones race and how it relates to their knowing about DreamGirls. What I can't believe is how anyone could listen to the obc of Dreamgirls and not her the simularties between Loretta Devine's voice and Fantasia's. Yes Fantasia's voice is a little more raspier but she and Loretta Devine sound very much alike.

ljay, I HARDLY think thetruth meant most of us know little about Dreamgirls because we're white. It's just likely that most people may have not even seen the show at all, and they're saying Fantasia shouldn't be in the movie because she's Fantasia, even though she very way may be perfect for the part.

I know nothing about Dreamgirls except for what I hear on the OBCR, but honestly, as dreamboy said, I don't understand how one could listen to Loretta Devine and not think that Fantasia would be a good candidate for the part. There is a smilar tone and energy to their voices.

I'm not even going to pay any attention to that craziness.

But, Dreamboy and Broadwaygirl have hit home the points that I was originally talking about. I think a lot of people just hate Fantasia and they don't want to see her in anything broadway related, not realizing that this is a pop opera with music from the 60's & 70's. Her singing is fine for the role. She will not be performing like she normally does, so I doubt you'll see her spinning around (which I happen to like!) Condon and Geffen will work with her and she's like a sponge. I have no doubt that she will be able to pull off the part. I hate to refrence back to American Idol (it seems to get folks in a huff) but she was very versatile on the program and showed that she's able to interpret lyrics like no other.

I'd be fascinated to hear which R&B artists are out there at the moment that could blow Fantasia out of the water , they must be special talents indeed as in my book there isn't anyone that comes close to Fantasia when performing live at the moment

I agree Croft. I can't name any other artist *period* (R&B or otherwise)who is more talented than Fantasia let alone, blow her out of the water.

I'm sorry but I think that there are many r&b artist who can give Fantasia a run for her money both vocally and performance wise. I think that Mariah Carey is vocally better than Fantasia and both Beyonce and Alicia who I have had the pleasure of seeing them both live, can sang and give one hell of of a perfromance. I think Fantasia can sing and is a good performer but she is pretty young in the game and there are plenty of artist who have been around longer and are a lot more seasoned performers.

do you think Fantasia would be playing Michelle Morris? Just a thought if not who do you think would make a good Michelle? She would also have to look good w/ Usher

I seriously doubt Fantasia would be playing Michelle Morris becasue she is vocally wrong for the part. Michelle's voice has to be soft and kinfda remiscent of Deena's . I think Mya would be a good choice for Michelle. She has the voice for it and I think she and Usher would look good together.

It was Fantasia not Alicia keys that got standing ovations at Clive Davis' pre grammy party and it was Fantasia and Gladys knight that stole the show at the recent Bet awards , both leaving Mariah in their dust , I think you might be surprised at some of her live perfomances recently , I recommend her AOL sessions for those that think she can't sing
Smokey Robinson said recently that he didn't see Fantasia as an up and comer , but as someone who'd already arrived

I love all this support for this movie!

I trust Bill Condon as an artist and a visionary. He hasnt EVER dissappointed me. As far as this Fantasia thing goes, Truth, keep rootin for your girl honey. She has what it takes. It's brilliant casting in my opinion, if she is indeed cast as Lorell. Those of you who are just hating( meaning you are doubting her talents based simply on her public persona, her songs, or just fact that she's an American Idol)you should really think about adjusting your posting, because you will be singled out as simply what you are: a hater.
