Wow is the perfect word. This will probably reel in the geriatric crowd but I'm really, really excited for this, particularly to finally see Redgrave live onstage!

WHAT? Mr. Uhry, excuse me - are you NUTS? Anti Israel Vanessa Redgrave (http://ht.ly/24V5j) to be on B'way as Miss Daisy? http://ht.ly/24V4S

Both are too old for the roles.

Too old? Isn't Daisy Werthan supposed to be 72 at the start of the play? Vanessa Redgrave is 73. Jessica Tandy was 80 when she was in the film version, and Wendy Hiller was 76 in the original West End production.

Jessica Tandy was 80 when she played the role in the movie. Vanessa Redgrave will be 73 when she plays it on stage. She at least is not too old.

I would've much preferred another, younger, up-and-coming black actor over Jones.

Though I haven't seen the show yet. I suppose I should pass judgement then.

This is definitely what I'm most excited for next season.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

this will be fantastic, the thing I am most excited for this fall season for sure. These are two of the finest actors of their generation and it will be a thrill to see them together on stage.

Elimeyer -

You are assuming Uhry has casting approval. By the way is your name McCarthy by any chance??

I'm just excited to have a chance to see James Earl Jones onstage, personally.

This is perfect for Redgrave...and no, she's not too young.

James Earl Jones though is all wrong. I find that the show is more poignant when the role is played younger. That kid from SUPERIOR DONUTS would have been terrific.

I've seen Jones a few times on stage, and I was underwhelmed, particularly with ON GOLDEN POND.

He's too f*ckin old.

Redgrave was riveting in LONG DAY'S JOURNEY... and THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING. I couldn't take my eyes off of her, she's brilliant.

Hopefully it will be an open ended run, so after Redgrave/Jones depart, we can have Marian Seldes take over!

How young can Hoke really be played, though? Isn't he supposed to be relatively close in age to Daisy? As in, older than Boolie but younger than Daisy?

Would've loved Danny Glover for a name.

But y'know who if they didn't go for a name? Chuck Cooper. Hands down.
