I agree, munkustrap178: I enjoyed Griffith's performance, too. Updated On: 11/6/04 at 12:38 PM

She'd also have to drop the weight she's put on for the new BRIDGET JONES movie...

Oh, right. Because she's such a fatso for those films. It's hilarious, in a tragic kind of way, that as soon as you actually put flesh on your bones in Hollywood you're considered overweight.
I didn't like her in the movie at all. Actually, out of the whole movie adaptation I found her my least favorite aspect.
I don't doubt that she did a pretty job with her singing in the movie, but I do doubt she could be in the show onstage. The show is alot more intense on stage, with more choreography, and I'm not quite sure if she could pull off singing and dancing all at once. Also, she was a real acting-singer in the movie - what I mean is, In don't feel that she has a great voice, but her acting allows her to imatate a singer's voice. Just my opinion.
Darlings, Renee couldn't sing on key if her life depended on it. All her singing had to be re-engineered in the studio.
i honestly think i'd shoot myself if she did the role on stage...she was......alright in the move but nothing special.
Here's one thing I don't understand: What do you guys take Rob Marhsall for? He cast Renee because he knew that she could sing and dance it. If she wasn't talented he would have found someone else. He thought she was perfect for the part, and she is.

I agree with the guy who mentioned how she wouldnt even sing at the oscars...i think Queen Latifah as mama on broadway would be way better than Renee as Roxie.
I think Renee did great in the movie. She brought a sweet innocence to Roxie.
I loved the movie and thought Renee was amazing in it. Renee had every aspect Melaine had times 50. She is not the best Roxie, but the only one on the recordings who sings the melodies and makes them hummable. I thought she created such an emotional level with Roxie that i truly was both rooting for her and booing for her during the entire movie. It's confusing, and that's what Roxie is supposed to do. We're following her story, and we dont like it, but we're thirsty for more. That's what CHICAGO is about damn it!

Broadway86, I take Rob Marshall for a very good director who was at least partly under the thumb of the Weinsteins, and also prioritized acting over singing and dancing.
I like Zellwegger in Chicago. But I really doubt she could pull it off on stage. That's all.
I don't know about the singing, she can, they didnt digitaly enchance it. but she is WAY too uncomfortable with her voice. She would be hobbly on stage. NOt saying I didn'y love her in CHICAGO, as you can tel from my post. I never said anything about the stage. But, my one thing is: If Melanie Griffith got to do it, Renee could too.
