Never thought it would work... but after seeing Jennifer Ellison as Roxie, I thought IT WOULD WORK!!! Jen could not sing (SO different from Meg in POTO!!!!!!), alrite in dancin' and bad in acting! And she's copying ALOT from Renee's Roxie in the movie! So I think Renee as Roxie would actually work!
Dun't know whether you will agree with me....
My CHICAGO the musical group!!!
Given that Renee wouldn't even sing her half of I Move On at the Oscars, I don't somehow think she will work on stage as Roxie.

Not to mention the fact that the Weisslers' couldn't afford to pay her....
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
Not to mention that she's repeatedly said she has no interest in doing stage.
If she'd be up to it, she would be terrific. Unfortunately, she's not.

Popcultureboy hit it on the nose- she wasn't even willing to do one live performance, and there's probably a reason for that. In what universe would she be able to do 8 such performances a week?
Her voice was acceptable in Chicago, especially because Roxie is supposed to be marginally talented. But if she sounded that weak with pitch correction and all the fun electronic doohickeys movie sound editors get to use, she really doesn't belong on a stage.
I didn't like her performance that much - it was overly trained and perfected talent. Very strained. On the stage? Sure, she'd drum up business, but I'm sensing a repeat of Melanie Griffith.
no no no. If anyone from that movie should re-create their role onstage it should be Catherine. I think she'd be fabulous on stage.
Hmmm. I don't think she could dance the Velma choreography in the current revival though. Queen Latifah would be great as Mama on stage though, I think.
she's a trained dancer. that's where her roots are. Queen Latifah would be great too!
Trained dancer she might be, recently trained dancer she's not. Maybe with a LOT of work, she could handle it. But the film choreography was nowhere near the stage show and they had the editing to help them.
true, but i think she could still do it.
I was just wondering with this idea of Renee because Jennifer actually DOES sound alot like her. And I don't think that CZJ can do the role onstage.... It's been AGES since she's ACTUALLY did a dancing show and she's bore a baby after the movie.... 'fat chance' for CZJ to be playing the role onstage!
My CHICAGO the musical group!
Given that one of the best Velma's I have seen is also the biggest and makes CZJ look like a tooth pick, your comment really has no merit. And even if I didn't have that to back me up, it STILL doesn't hold any merit.
Rene had done it and did it well. Why would she ven consider doing it again? It would make no sense career wise. And she makes more in one minute than any of the Roxies make in one month.
Considering all the other stars the Weisslers have been able to afford, I don't think that's the issue here. If a movie star wants to do theater, REALLY wants to do it, they take the theater salary.

Agreed, Rath. But Zellwegger doesn't strike me as a big lover of theatrical performing a la Banderas and Jackman.
Which is why she wouldn't do it. Money would not be the issue.
No indeed. Clearly, Renee is all too aware of her shortcomings and how cruelly the stage would expose them.
No, Would never want to see her on stage as Roxie. She totally couldn't handle it.
Am I the only one who thinks she would look TERRIBLE in the Roxie costume, she has no sex appeal in my opinion, she wouldn't look right in Roxies very sexy black lace costume.
Anyway, I would love to see Kristin Chenoweth as a summer Roxie stunt. She would be fab. in my opinion. And I don't think the dancing would be a problem for her at all.

I think Chenoweth could handle the demands of Roxie pretty easily, but isn't she sorta busy? West Wing filming and all that.
I don't think Kristin Chenowith is quite at the level of being stunt casting just yet.
I never said she should do it this summer. Shes WAY too busy.
But I do think for her return to Broadway it would be so great if she returned to Bway as Roxie. I can see it now. I don't think it would be seen below her standards though. Personally, just for a couple months as Roxie would be wonderful, than she could do all the original shows she wants. If the Wessilers were smart they would look into what I'm saying.
But I totally see it..
KRISTIN CHENOWETH returns to BROADWAY as ROXIE HART in the HIT MUSICAL CHICAGO.
Here we go again - Kristen Chenoweth has worked her way into a thread again. Wicked will never stop haunting me, will it?
I think Renee would be wretched in it - she can't sing for ****. And there was something about Melanie Griffith's performance in CHICAGO that I really did like - she was GOD awful, but there was soemthing very sweet, honest, and appealing about it. Don't know. Now i'll be attacked.
