Hmmmm, I new this was coming. I wouldn't say it pisses me off but wish they could just advertize it making it obvious that it is the musical without the word "Live"
Norbert and Marcy...wow...long time ago.
Eww I don't like that second one AT ALL!

Isn't that video commercial from 7 or 8 years ago?
Yeah that is very old, and I actually would have prefered to have the movie look as gritty as that commercial.
Question: Did the Rent 10th anniversary benefit ever take place (with the original cast)?
Thanks.

I've always loved that commercial... the Norbert angst is fabulous (and slightly hysterical)
And I love how they bounce along at the end...
Oy vey. More for that radio commercial than for the TV spot, though. I know *I* love my Broadway musicals publicized by people who sound like they just finished up the voiceover for the new Clearasil ad.. *rolls eyes*
I realize they want to differentiate between the movie and the stage show, (and that it's IMPORTANT to do so) but, c'mon. Rent LIVE! makes it sound like some kind of TV show: "Liiiive from New York! It's RENT!"
Kay, the Thread-Jacking Jedi
Quando omni flunkus moritati (When all else fails, play dead...)
"... chasin' the music. Trying to get home."
Peter Gregus: "Where are my house right ladies?!"
(love you, girls! - 6/13/06)
the commercial is old, but the horrible voice over is new.
click the link below to see the original. i wish they would have kept this and just changed the ending so it said something about a natl tour instead of broadway.

"it's a gut check" UGGGGHH
That radio spot has to go!
Can't blame them for trying to make it clear that it's not the movie, but the actual play, so the "Live" thing doesn't bug.
I am sure they were hoping to draft off of the success of RENT, but sadly that didn't happen.
That TV spot is old lol..but love seeing Norbert! lol.

Well, they are only following in Chicago's tradition, which, after the movie, they launched a tour and called it Chicago Live.
They did the same thing with Chicago. No one should be surprised at THIS.

I like that ad campagn better than "Celebrating it's 10th season of love."
That was just lame.

I loved the harmoies in 'No Day But Today' on that last clip. Although I've not seen the film yet, cos' i live in the UK. I knew that Chris Columbus was a bad idea, his Harry Potter movies were like Sunday afternoon films, he just lacks originality. As many posters have pointed out, the show should be gritty and realistic not fluffy and cheesey.
Mostly everything is CHICAGO - LIVE now. Get used to it. Even the posters you buy at the theatre say CHICAGO LIVE.
I don't mind it.
Though I don't know if RENT really needs. Considering it wasn't the commercial SMASH the Chicago fim was.
haha yeah that bothers me a little. But you do what you gotta do.
I wonder where they filmed that commercial. Roger's flat looks the same as the one in the movie. And well, Norbert Leo Butz and Macry Harriell!
PS If you like those two, check out http://www.norbertleobutzonline.com/rent.htm
I have gathered a lot of good stories there.
The video ad is decent, but the voiceover for it is terrible.
I agree about the look of the commerical, jacob.
I also love the way the commercial looks.
I HATE the Radio spot. How cheesey. They make it sound like a reggae or jazz concert...
