New thread for those of us who have seen it to discuss - the other thread has links to download it, so please don't post on this thread asking for links!!
Anyway - thoughts?
Mine:
--First - WOOOOWWW! I was already psyched and had faith that Columbus wouldn't screw it up, but now, I'm thinking this might be better than I hoped.
--It was a little jaring at first to hear the different mix of the song (different from the OBC recording, that is). Not saying bad - just different. And MAN! Traci Toms has some pipes, doesn't she?? If she can act (and I assume she can) she'll be a great Joanne.
--Jesse L. Martin is going to SHOCK those heathens that think he's just the guy from Law & Order, isn't he??
--LOVED the back flip off of the pole by Angel. Assume that will be part of "Today For You"
--Can't wait for the next trailer. I know they were shooting La Vi Boheme last week, so fingers are crossed that the next one will have snippets of that.
Okay - that's my .02. Next?

Wax Lion says that there are elements in the movie version of RENT that have to make a greater impact on audiences compared to the stage version. The translation from stage to screen is interesting, because emotion can be lost. For instance, it's an awesome sight to see Angel jump from the floor to the table in 6" platform heels in real, but in this day and age of Terrintino and Crouching Tiger visual effects, movie audiences have been spoiled. So, to make Angel more of a force to be reckoned with, girl got some more groove.
Wax Lion has read that there has been much rumor and specutation about the teaser being too "light". All he has to say about that is to keep tight inside your ruby slippers, this is only the begining.
Wax Lion loves the beautiful Tracie Thoms, and agrees that she has a very powerful voice. The version of SEASONS OF LOVE that is in the teaser is mixed down for time, so it's not the final piece you'll hear in the movie or on the soundtrack/cast recording. The rest of the cast is just as mind-blowingly awesome. When the movie comes out...bring kleenex.
Love,
Wax Lion

Whoever edited the trailer is a genius, in my opinion. It was moving, told me enough about the movie, showed me everyone involved, and gave me insight into the look of the show.
I am sure we will get a trailor with spoken scenes/songs, closer to the release date.
It has definetly made me play Rent again. Oh, and Adam Pascal looks freaking hot.

Posted: 6/3/05 at 12:50pmI feel like it looks exactly like I wanted to...maybe even a bit better. Everything just looks perfect. As much as I would love the original costumes, I love the changes they've made. I'm SO excited.

I think some of the costumes are a bit too theatrical for the look/feel that Columbus is going for.
It sort of reminded me of the Hair movie, in look and feel.

Posted: 6/3/05 at 12:54pmI loved it and it looks like RENT will be an awesome movie. The only people I didn't know (Rosario and Tracie) have met and exceeded my expections and I'm very happy to have them be a part of this project. From the blogs of the cast and the trailer, I think RENT is going to be a kick-a$$ movie. I like the way they put Adam in most scenes to show he is the main character (something I never quite understoood, I thought Mark was the main character...the narrators usually are) and I ADORE the Angel back flip, I wish I could manage that in heels. All in all, the trailer was great and I'm very excited for the movie (not to mention, forcing all my friends that haven't seen it to watch it). =8->
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

Posted: 6/3/05 at 12:55pmThe ONE costume that kinda overwhelmed me was Mimi's Out Tonight costume...I feel like a garment like that will either work PERFECTLY or be a huge miss...I hope it works. I trust it will...

"Jesse L. Martin is going to SHOCK those heathens that think he's just the guy from Law & Order, isn't he??"
I thought the EXACT same thing! I showed the trailer to my mom who is a big Law & Order fan. When Jesse hit his last note in Seasons of Love I believe her exact words were, "Wow. Just....wow. He's....wow."
I admit that I was a bit skeptical about Tracie. However, any lingering doubts that I had had about her have quickly evaporated. Her voce is amazing. I can't wait to hear what she does with Take Me or Leave Me.
And yeah, Adam is definitely smokin'.

Wax Lion says that the original Angela Wendt costumes ARE being used. The very talented Aggie Guerard Rodgers (who has costumed many *amazing* films such as The Color Purple, Return of the Jedi and Beetle Juice) elaborated on the flamboyant style of the East Village in the late 80's and early 90's. She took Wendt's original designs and stretched them to go further. In fact, she stretched them to cover 525,600 minutes, albeit no plaid's. But you'll see all of your favorites from the santa claus coat to the blue hologram pants.

Wax Lion has several good friends that are in the Producers movie. None of them are made of wax, though.

Wax Lion says that he isn't very wise, but just speaks from experience. He loves Angels Wendt's designs very much too, Jwei. In fact he's worn them many, many times.

Wax Lion says that the original fitting was years ago and was very, very easy. He just went shopping. But the style is out of date for todays market, so a replica had to be made. He's wearing it in his icon and it's very comfy.

Posted: 6/3/05 at 1:30pmI really do think Jesse is going to shock his Law & Order fan base - in a great way! When the RENT tour came to my small town in TN, the old ladies (think red hat society) were rockin out. They all sound so amazing on the trailer. I am THRILLED!

My $.02 - This TRAILER is beautiful. Adam is scorching, as usual. Everyone looks great and the set looks gorgeous. I had high expectations for this trailer and it just blew me away.
My first thoughts about this movie were, "Oh, heck no. This will definitely not work."
I completely take that statement back and am counting down the days 'till November.

I just loved, loved this trailer! I have watched about 50 times and I am so happy about this. So many things in the trailer truly gave me chills! I loved:
- Traci's solo in SOLO was amazing, this woman can sing, and she made me very happy, an amazing choice for Joanne indeed!
- Roger and Mark's hug, that was very touching.
- Roario dancing at the club!!!~!!!!! Oh lordy, this almost gave me a heart attach! This girl is going to do amazing...can not not, not at all wait!
- The cemetary was chilling, I loved this! It almost made me cry...
All in all, I can not wait a second longer for this movie, let alone five months! It seems like forever, so I will be watching the trailer daily, and anticipating....

Y'know, I'm getting annoyed with people (on other threads) that say Chicago was a fluke and that Rent won't be a big film. Bullcrap, I say! It has a top-line director, studio backing, is being released at prime Oscar time, and the source material won a freaking Tony and Pulitzer Prize!!
Maybe not actor Oscars because it's an ensemble (maybe supporting?), but the film could DEFINITELY be a contender when all is said and done. Best picture, a LOCK for songs, cinematography, etc...
And yeah, I like The Producers, too, but Mel Brooks ain't winning a gold statue anytime soon, y'know? Maybe Roger Bart. But no movie with Wil Ferrell in it will ever get Oscar consideration....
