to be off topic some more, isnt his new movie "kicking and screaming" a little bit more serious? more serious meaning it's not one of the typical will ferrell outrageous characters.

I don't think so. It's just a Bad News Bears/Mighty Ducks knockoff on a soccer field, from what I can see.
I won't see Bewitched because I can't stand Nicole Kidman (eat a sandwich already!!!), but he's supposed to be very good in it.

I've never seen Rent, and I've never heard any of the music, and I don't know anything about the story. So... the trailer didn't do anything for me. All I was left with was questions like "What's it about?" and "Why should I go and see this movie?"
I'm a big fan of musicals (obviously not big enough, since I don't know anything about Rent), so I definitely plan on seeing the movie. But what about all those other people who know nothing about Rent AND aren't fans of musicals? I can't imagine they'll flock to the movie theaters after seeing this trailer.

It's an introductory trailer using a well-known song from the play. Even my mother knows the song.
Trust me - there will be more trailers and they will be more specific scene clips, I'm sure.
But - your point is well-taken. Those of us who know the play backwards and forwards could see where each little clip fit in, but your're right - non RentHeads wouldn't get it.

"Maybe not actor Oscars because it's an ensemble (maybe supporting?), but the film could DEFINITELY be a contender when all is said and done. Best picture, a LOCK for songs, cinematography, etc..."
unless they write a new song it wont be nominated for its music. Only original songs and music made for the movie can be nominated. like "learn to be lonely" from poto.

Wax Lion says that most musical movies have their own, unique audience. Thanks to MOULIN ROUGE, there is proof that adult audiences still enjoy a feature film musical. RENT will not be for everyone, and the ones that stay home will be the same ones that didn't see MOULIN, HEDWIG, CHICAGO, EVERYONE SAYS I LOVE YOU, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA et al.
Only time will tell what outcome and impact RENT will make on film audiences.
Love,

True, Wax - some people would never be caught dead watching a musical.
And of those you listed, Chicago was the only real big "hit". My hope is that Rent will be on that scale. But, yeah - time will tell.

I seem to remember talk about songs that were cut from the play. I guess they could re-insert those, but I would't be in favor of it. It's just fine the way it is...

Posted: 6/3/05 at 5:46pmI think its wonderful!!! I can't wait any longer!!!! I've watched it about 15 times now. My sister and I were trying to figure out whatever was shown goes to what song. And she didnt believe me Angel had a blonde wig too!! Also, it took me a while to realize the person taking off the wig was Wilson (slow moment for me!)

Um, I just watched the trailer, and was the girl that Roger looks at when he's playing in the club or whatever, can we assume that's April? It showed him kissing her too so thats what I'm guessing.

I'm not feeling good about this movie based on the trailer. Ok, I'm a purist, but it looks way too Hollywood.
It's too clean. (Did they update it to 2005?) Look at that subway. Way too clean for the time period. It doesn't look like East Village to me. The loft they live in, looks like yuppie heaven. If they are so desperate for money, why don't they slap up some walls and rent the space out to roommates?

Yup, that's April.
Am I the only one who thinks that- and I say this with an unblemished record of heterosexuality
- April looks extremely hot?

Yes, that girl is April. She's played by an actress who I believe is named Mackenzie Firgens.
Did anyone read the biography on imdb.com on the woman who is playing Alison? She sounds like superwoman.

Mackenzie Firgens, yeah. She was in...
Groove (2000)
Cupids (2003)
Quality of Life (2004)
She looks good, and from the tiny bit you see from the trailer, she and Adam seem to have good chemistry...
