Posted: 1/21/05 at 5:04pmDo replacements get paid as much as the original? Because they are working just as hard. Would Shosh get the same as Idina or Carly Jibson the Same as Marissa?

Posted: 1/21/05 at 5:20pmI highly doubt it. Shoshana (though such a sweet girl and I love her) is not nearly as well known as Idina. Idina is a name...plus she's a Tony award winner...so is Marissa. I really doubt their replacements get paid as much. Unless they cast someone as famous or more famous than the original.

Posted: 1/21/05 at 5:23pmFrom what I understand, don't people NEGOTIATE their contracts? God bless agents! hehe
#3re: Replacements $
Posted: 1/21/05 at 5:26pmYes contracts are negotiated...but there's no way an agent can negotiate a producer to pay Carly Jibson as much as Marissa Jaret Winokur was paid...and the same for Shoshana and Idina...Marissa and Idina are Tony award winning actresses which means that they are going to get paid more than their replacements will unless their replacements are also as famous as the originals...or more famous for that matter.

Posted: 1/21/05 at 5:27pmWhat are pay rates for Broadway actors? I know that the minimum for an equity contract on Broadway is around $1300 to $1400, but how do they go up from there?

"Idina is a name."
Not really. I mean, to the Broadway community, yes, but not the average person. I think Sosh is just as well known. Idina really has not done that many productions. The only thing she has over Sosh is a Tony award.

Posted: 1/21/05 at 5:36pmWell, perhaps she didn't get as much in the beginning...but I can guarantee you her pay was increased after she won the TONY, no doubt about it. The show has made her pretty well known...if only in NY...but she is more known than Shosh. I mean, I love Shosh, but she's not getting paid as much as a Tony award winner.

Oh no. Idina is a name within this community. She was nominated for a Tony for a very well-received turn in RENT and was also Drama Desk-nominated for her work in THE WILD PARTY. As lovely and talented as Shoshana Bean is, she doesn't come close to having the leveraging power that Idina had. At all.
You would be SHOCKED to hear what they offered to Laura Bell Bundy for the replacement for G'linda.

Shoshana is no where as well known as Idina.
See, why JLT gets first billing now? Because, she's a bigger name. She has been nominated for a Tony, had a big part in Urinetown, which she recieved great acclaim for. Also was a lead in Footloose.
It's all politics.

Posted: 1/21/05 at 5:58pmYes I dont see why it matters how much they get paid as long as they do their job. And do it well.

Idina made over $20,000 a week in wicked, one of the absolute highest salaries on broadway.
I don't know shoshana's salary, but it is surely not that high.

My source is the vat of useless knowledge in my brain.
I can't provide a legitimate source, but I read an article comparing the enormous salaries of Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane during their return stint in the producers (of $100,000 a week) to other broadway performers.
Idina and Kristin were mentioned of having salaries of about $20,000 a week. As stated in previouis comments, Idina's salary probably rose after her tony win.

Posted: 1/21/05 at 8:00pmthe statement about nathan and matthew's salaries being $100,000 a week is true...Jennifer Costello, a producer of 'The Producers' told me this figure, and she also had to fix my jaw back into place.
