Reidel is usually wrong on all of his predictions. Also i would imagine Kinky boots will be closing in the fall so maybe it could go in there? Thogh GHD probably wont make it past january of 2018.

It's percentage of gross money is only at 60%.....it's not doing great business...but I doubt it's closing its doors too soon.

Things haven't been looking great for them for awhile, and that's a low advance, so that's no surprise.
Does "next season" for Angels mean 17/18 or 18/19??

Yeah, I've been looking at tickets and there are a lot and a lot of tickets for all of the performances. Hope the Tonys spike everything up

"'Groundhog Day' is a long shot, theater people say, though a snappy production number on the June 11 Tony telecast could well boost its box office."
I don't really recall anything like a "snappy production number" in Groundhog. They could do the car chase number ("Nobody Cares"*), which seems to be an audience favorite, but then the humans (vs puppets) wouldn't get much of a showcase. The most coherent numbers are the ballads ("Everything About You," "If I Had My Time Again," "Night will Come," etc.), but it seems that ballads are rarer than peppy numbers on the Tony Awards, doesn't it?

I wouldn't classify "If I Had My Time Again" as a ballad, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them perform that number on the telecast.

In what reality is it hovering at 1 million Riedel?

Only Riedel would predict that Groundhog Day was going to be a smash hit.
So to review the article: Groundhog Dog is in trouble but not really don't worry! Also, the star-studded and acclaimed revival of one of the most important American plays might transfer- who would've guessed!?

Why can't ANGELS go to the Kerr since that's empty and I don't recall anything announced to go in soon.

And you left out the other half of the "shocker," that if it transfers, Jordan Roth will be all over it.

Jordan Roth? Produce a work with gay themes? Well, I never!

Tbh, I was surprised when Jordan jumped all over the white straight misogynistic Groundhog Day.

I mean, much as I love ANDY KARL, I won't miss "Playing Nancy".....
This show will be TARGET NUMBER ONE after it loses all seven Tonys... Even I know that LOL

... "Playing Nancy" was the best song in that show. Sigh. I'd argue that was the only bearable song in that show.

You know GROUNDHOG DAY needs to close when even SKIMBLES thinks BEN PLATT deseves the Tony LOL!

How does one thing (the best actor Tony) have anything to do with the other (GHD closing)? Lots of shows won't win the "important" awards and won't need to close.
Without a bump from the Tony coverage, it will last the sumer...with one, to January.

B/c it's the only tony GROUNDHOG could conceivably win... They could try to leverage that for a longer run one supposes...
Not saying it would WORK, just that they could try... I think the show will be gone by Jan as well!

You are right, Playing Nancy is the best song in the show - given to a character that I cared nothing about and whose "arc" did nothing to move the action forward.
This was the most disappointing show of the season. I was bored.

Riedel is right in 2 parts of his argument though...
- No one expected Dear Evan Hansen to be the SRO hit that it is.
- No one expected Come From Away to actually be a Tony contender and be open past Tony Nominations, let alone be a regular of the Million Dollar Club.
Honestly going into this season there were only 3 things that most assumed:
- Hello Dolly would be the Hottest Ticket in Town
- Natasha Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 would be the only Fall show that would definitely make it to the Spring on the back of Josh Groban.
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would open with a massive advance and would quickly burn through it once reviews came out like every other show that has played Lunt-Fontanne Theatresince Beauty and the Beast closed.
All of that was even foggier when Groundhog Day announced its Broadway intentions in January of 2016. This season has honestly been one of the most unpredictable in a long time.
