How do you go to press saying the Barrymore is a possible fit when The Band's Visit was announced weeks ago?
I'd SO much rather have Jenna Fischer come to Broadway than Amy Schumer.
The plot sounds rather similar to Detroit by Lisa D'Amour.

JBroadway, I couldn't agree more.
I really don't like Amy Schumer. I love Laura Benanti, however!
You'd have to pay ME to see Amy Schumer in anything.

That was just his way of mentioning all the recent closings...
So... No Benanti for My Fair Lady, huh? I mean, there are prolific stars who do multiple shows in the same season (*cough* Borle *cough*), but a November bow for what could be a really good sell doesn't bode well. BTW, why isn't Nina Arianda not back on Broadway yet? She sounds oddly perfect for the Amy Schumer role even though I haven't read/seen the play. I hope we see her soon.
I badly want Benanti back on Broadway, but a Steve Martin play with Amy Schumer is a big pass from me.
I'm SO glad I stumbled across this thread (even though it's just another Riedel thread), because I thought I was the only one who didn't like Amy Schumer.

I expect they will go with someone much younger than Benanti for Eliza Doolittle.

I was thinking How To Transcend A Happy Marriage.
Assuming Riedel is right (I know) and it's Benanti, Kudisch, and Linklater, it would be hard to pass this up even if the plot doesn't sound at all appealing. Though I'd rather see them in a musical, the humor in Bright Star was one of the highlights.
Feel like this would fit at the Court. I'm not sure if Schumer is a big draw. Her movies have done okay, but she's not a Hugh Jackman yet.

If Benanti auditions and is offered My Fair Lady, I don't see her passing it for this

Yes. Please.

Schumer sold out Madison Square Garden just a few months ago, so...
And it's *Cort.
I'm not going to lie. I don't see this doing well at all. People strongly dislike Amy Schumer and I don't see many people willing to go out of their way to see her in anything.
Also Benanti does not read too old to play Eliza in MFL on stage. Isn't she around the same age as Audrey Hepburn was she played the part and wasn't the original Eliza in Pygmalion like 47 when she originated the role? I love Soo, but she's not a legit soprano no matter how hard anyone wants her to be and she is just far too poised to be believable as a cockney flower girl. I've seen everything that she's done, even a production of A Little Night Music at Juilliard and while she is a brilliant actress and singer, she doesn't have the right qualities for Eliza.
Anyways, yay Laura Benanti. Boo Amy Schumer.

I still think it would be fair to give Soo an opportunity for her to not play poised before we say she can't do it. Although to be fair, I don't think her Amélie was particularly poised at all. All of her other characters (including ALNM) have kind of required it.
This conversation should be diverted to the MFL thread though.
I guess I can sort of deal with Benanti not being cast in MY FAIR LADY (a travesty!) if it means she still gets to come to Broadway next season and in a comedic play. I feel her comedic gifts are so rarely put to use, and I also love it when actors who are usually thought of as musical theatre actors get cast in plays.
I used to love Amy Schumer the first few seasons of her show, but after the last season of the show and the Netflix comedy special, I've been disappointed with her acting. Maybe going back to stage and disappearing into a role will be a nice change of space for her. I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. And I think it's great that there are two good roles for funny ladies. I'll take it.

Benanti is at least 15 years too old for Eliza, being kind. There is no way they are going to offer her Eliza; if they do, I predict a messy production.

Lol. A broadway veteran who is literally perfect in everyway and will easily read as the right age from the audience isn't exactly the sign of a "messy" production. Maybe you should take this over into the proper thread.

I would think that, if given the choice, Martin would want to stay as far away from the Cort as possible (given how long his previous production lasted there). But what do I know?
