Roger Bart to headline the Australian production of Back To The Future.
For me it’s still one of the worst musicals I’ve sat through and yes I did see Cyrano the musical.
Not sure if this casting better represents the lack of protection of Australian stage actors, or whether or not Roger Bart desperately needs a job.

I think despite what many of us think about BTTF, Bart must absolutely love playing the role. And why knock him for it?
No one:
Roger Bart: I'm going to give you a world tour in BACK TO THE FUTURE
I do think it is always a fun novelty seeing an original Broadway or London star in a distant location. Roles don't exactly turn up every day especially at his age. So ride the wave while it's there!!

I can think of a bunch of older Australian actors who could play that role but maybe they didn't want to!
Theatre producing is not a jobs program.
They can cast whoever they like. It’s one role.
He’s also the only thing that is close to good about that show.

As we say here in Australia, Settle Petal! I didn't say he shouldn't be allowed to do the role. Someone else earlier said was this a case of lack of protection for Australian actors or whether or not Bart needed the role. All I said was I could think of Australian actors who could do the role, as someone who actually lives in Sydney unlike most people on this board.
I'm not sure why my comments as a Sydneysider are so offensive. I've got nothing against Roger Bart.

Strong unions that are meant to protect workers and their jobs, like Actors Equity, IATSE, and AFM, would beg to differ.
Bart would have had to be cleared by Actors Equity in Australia to be given clearance to do the role. The producers would have said that they couldn’t find an Australian actor up to par.
Roger rarely performed 8 times a week so some lucky Aussie will have the opportunity to go on as Doc Brown a lot at least.

The brilliant and versatile Troy Sussman (whose resume includes basically every major show in Australia over the last 30 years) is listed as standby so it will be in good hands for any late call-outs that Bart does.
The actor playing Mr Strickland (and therefore Doc understudy), Anton Berezin, is greatly seasoned as well and was often the cover for Anthony Warlow in shows over the years.
