Rooting for Tracy Letts tonight

I see in another thread many of you are predicting that Tom Hanks will nab the lead-actor award. Didn't see his performance.

But I DID sit in the front row at Virginia Woolf and Tracy Letts just blew me away. I thought he was frighteningly good and absolutely nailed that role.

So, while it may be a longshot, GO TRACY!!!

Big difference between predicting who will win and who they think DESERVES to win.

I saw Hank's performance, it was very good, and while I think he very well may have his name called later tonight, in my heart I will be rooting for Letts as well. He and Amy Morton both devastated me with their performances. (I haven't seen Ms Tyson, and I understand she is wonderful, but I still want Morton to be called.)
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Yes indeed, Dramamama. I'd be very happy with wins for both Letts and Morton, as well.

I would love for him to win, but sadly I think Mr. Hanks is gonna take it. I enjoyed his performance, but nothing topped Mr. Letts' George.

Rooting for Tracy Letts tonight

I will chime in and say the same as everyone else: I so much want Tracy Letts to win tonight! I'll never forget this production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf, it is without question one of my favorite and one of the best theater-going experiences I have ever had.

I saw Lucky Guy this week, and was really hoping Tom Hanks would be brilliant so I would be less disappointed with him winning. I thought the show itself was underwhelming and Hanks was good in a fairly mediocre role.

Nothing holds a candle to George, and nothing would hold a candle to Letts' performance this season. Seeing him lose will be expected, but really heartbreaking.

You can add me to this chorus. Letts and Morton (and Carrie Coon and the criminally unrecognized Madison Dirks) showed me that there was still so much to be discovered in a play I thought I knew inside-out. I would love for Letts to win. If I had I vote, I would cast one for him and one for Morton.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I would love to see Morton win as well, but I can't say I won't be thrilled for Cicely Tyson. She was absolutely glorious in Bountiful.

If it's not Morton (and I'm not kidding myself that Morton has a chance) I'm hoping Nielsen pulls in upset. Cicely was very good, but let's not kid ourselves that she gave the best performance in the category. She will win for sentimental reasons.

Oh, no doubt there is a sentimental factor, but I couldn't help but be overjoyed seeing her on stage in such a great performance. In such a competitive year for actresses in plays, I think she is a great winner, one of many deserving performances. I would love to see either Nielsen or Morton (especially Morton) win as well.

Morton and Letts changed the way I will see WAOVW forever and I will be devastated if they don't win. I'm trying to not get my hopes up but it was the highlight of this season for me.

That was really the only award I cared about tonight and I'm so happy to see Tracy Letts win. That production and his performance are going to stay with me for a very long time.

SHOCKED, but so happy. He absolutely deserved this award. And he is one of the nicest, most genuine people around.

A bit of egg on the faces of Tony producers by having Sally Field and Matthew Broderick presenting. obviously they believed it was between Lane and Hanks.
