"TV TO DVD" seems to be a growing fad. I visited two movie studios websites and both had pop-up surveys about TV titles to DVD.
Everything from classics to contemporary TV series are now or coming soon to DVD, including Johnny Carsen Show, Carole Burnett Show, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Alias, Buffy, Simpsons, Muppet Show, Law & Order, ER, Star Trek: Voyager, and many other various titles. Even reality shows such as Survivor and The Mole: Hawaii are on its way.
Do you think it's probable that the ROSIE O DONNELL SHOW will put her six seasons onto DVD? I'd LOVE to have all those Broadway performances on DVD. If she can't do it by the season, maybe a "Best of Season 1..2..3..." (which I think is more likely anyway).
it would be cool if she had a dvd on all the broadway performances on her show

Oh man I miss the good ole' days of watching the shows on Rosie! I remember getting so excited whenever she announced that a show would be performing! Please please please make a DVD!!
kate
I loved it when they did a show dedicated to all broadway shows. It was always before the Tony's. It's to bad nothing like that isn't on tv any more =(.
for her last show, didnt they have all the shows on?
I miss the Rosie show so much! I used to watch it everyday after school... Ah, memory, all alone in the moonlight...
Me too, me too...back in the days when Rosie was gay but not out and we all enjoyed her wit. Plus the Broadway performances were always welcome. I saw a lot of them throughout the years. I remember Sutton doing "Gimmie, Gimmie" and way back in 2001 when Eartha Kitt did a song from "The Wild Party", but I missed the last few. I missed Suessical's performance, but I saw Brad and Steven do "We Can Do It" from The Producers. And the final episode with Nathan Lane was awesome...I miss that show. We need a talk show network to rerun all these old shows. We have a game show network and a soap opera network...why no talk network? Updated On: 4/8/04 at 07:57 PM

I would buy it. Maybe we could start a petiton and send it to rosie's website or something. If she saw that enough people wanted her to have her show on dvd then we would all be able to get it!
And think of the money she could make to help her with the loss of TABOO.

Seussical performed three times, twice with David Shiner cast, once with Cathy Rigby cast.
I remember after the second performance of the David Shiner cast, the next day John McDaniel randomly started to play a song from SEUSSICAL. Rosie looked puzzled, felt interrupted, and asked "John, why are you playing SEUSSICAL music?" and he says "Well, we have a special visit here, Horton, and he has to ask you something."
Then Horton came out and had a poem set for Rosie, asking her to put on the Hat and become their "Cat" while David was out. That was one of my favorite Rosie Show moments. During her actual run on Broadway, she had a segment on her show with clips from rehearsals and herself in the actual show.
I also discovered Linda Eder because of Rosie. Rosie in her opening monologue talked about how she went to a concert and saw Linda Eder perform and fell in love with her. Later in the week, Eder came and sang "Vienna" on her show. I fell in love too with Eder, because of Rosie.
Rosie is going to have another website, after her website for her show then her magazine shut down. Rosie.com is coming soon. We should suggest the DVD release then.
wow. I missed a lot! They really need to put that on DVD. It's just not fair that I missed all those!
one can only dream...

Wouldn't there be some kind of Equity violations if the Broadway performances were sold on DVD?
I would *love* for that to happen though. And good lord, I forgot how many Broadway performances she had on! Looking at that list makes me even more irritated at how quick people forgot all she did for Broadway when they were slamming her and her quest with Taboo.....
omg Becky!! i never relized how much she did do for broadway. She was one of the reasons why i fell in love with broadway (or reinforced it). That would be awesome if they came out with a dvd of all the performances. I doubt it will happen though!!

Seriously!! I mean, c'mon. What other show would feature "Seven Guitars"? She gave a platform to productions that would have never seen network TV.
I remember when THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER performed. "To Hear You Say My Name". It was beautiful. Why is there no CD of that show? Good lord! Updated On: 4/8/04 at 11:57 PM
the music to tom sawyer is amazing! i wish there was a cd

lets not forget the glorious day when she told her viewing audience not to see the Annie revival and used a baseless rumor as the reason. or the way she turned her final show into a large musical piece all about how great rosie is.
good riddance
tell me more about this rumor? What happened?
"Wouldn't there be some kind of Equity violations if the Broadway performances were sold on DVD?"
I'm not positive. Consent was given for the performance on the show, so technically, doesn't the show belong to Rosie/NBC? and can't they now do what they want with it, such as a DVD release?
I have "The Johnny Carsen Collection" on DVD, with performances and interviews with Bette Midler, Robin Williams, Steve Martin, and many other entertainers. I don't think he and/or CBS needed permission from the entertainer's, since they signed a contract that their interview on the show becomes CBS' property.
In any case, yes, Rosie did a LOT for Broadway, regardless if you agree with her opinions on issues or not. Hundreds of performances, an equal amount of interviews with performers, she hosted the Tony's, she gave her audience tickets to see shows frequently, she did SO much. I loved that she got a "Lifetime Broadway Ticket Pass" in her final show.

I'm not sure if this is what the poster was referring to (feel free to correct me), but I believe they might be talking about the firing of Joanna Pacitti prior to the Broadway run. Brittney Kissinger replaced Joanna on the road (after Joanna was chosen to be "Broadway's new Annie" after a series of auditions..they had kind of turned it into a contest and aired the audition process on TV.)There was a lot of controversy surrounding this and many were calling for people to boycott the show. The reason for her firing? I believe their official reason was she didn't have chemistry with Daddy Warbucks. Heh. They could have come up with something better than that. After all, the show wasn't called "Daddy". I personally believe they realized they didn't have a long life with Joanna (she was older - 12 I think? - taller), and Brittney was this little 7/8 year old who they would be able to have around for a while....and they did. She played the role on Broadway and on the road for years. Joanna would have outgrown the part very quickly. However, that's show business. I can't remember any other 'rumor' Rosie referred to back then, so if I'm wrong, please remind me. It's been a while....
BTW, it wasn't just Rosie who had a problem with some of the dealings of that production. There were a LOT of angry people in the press, Broadway community, etc. And Rosie *did* have Brittney and the rest of the orphans singing "Hard Knock Life" promoting the show after they hit Broadway...for what it's worth.

Does anyone on here on the Boards maybe have a bunch of performances taped? Would love to have them recorded.
I have some, myself.
I wish I could remember those performances!! I always watched the show, so I know I saw them, it was just back then I didn't care at all about what was going on on Broadway, although I liked musicals. But, heck, I was like 8 years old! Which is another reason I can't remember the shows.... grrr....
