"A Little Fall Of Rain" –- Les Miserables –- especially when sung by Sutton Foster or Lea Salonga . . . live.
"Some Things Are Meant To Be" –- Little Women
"The Fire Within Me" -- LW -- She sings it with such passion!
"Tell Her I Love Her" -– Urinetown -– yes, I cry every time Bobby dies. Shutup.
"Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" -- Phantom
"Down Once More/Track Down This Murderer" –- Phantom –- Just because this line makes the tears nearly explode from my eyes: "Pitiful creature of darkness/What kind of life have you known?/God give me courage to show you/You are not alone . . . "
"Still Hurting" -– L5Y
"Nobody Needs To Know" –- L5Y -– "We build a tree house/I keep it from shaking/A little more glue ev’ry time that it breaks/Perfectly balanced/Then I start making/Conscious, deliberate mistakes."
"Goodbye Until Tomorrow/I Could Never Rescue You" –- L5Y -- "I could never rescue you/All you ever wanted/But I could never rescue you/No matter how I tried/All I could do was love you hard/And let you go."
and "I Have a Love" from WSS, but not as it's sung in the show. In the show it's somewhat uplifting. But when Idina sung it at her concert at the Zipper, it was in a way lower key and a slower tempo, which made it seem really dreary and sad. And I cried.

"Doatsy Mae" from BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE. It's not only moving, but it's a little short story/one act play in and of itself.
I'll Cover You (Reprise) - Rent
Empty Chairs at Empty Tables - Les Miserables
Still Hurting - L5Y
Goodbye Until Tomorrow/I Could Never Rescue You - L5Y
We Had A Dream - The Life
Friends, The Best Of (Reprise) - Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?
The I Love You Song - Spelling Bee
I once made a mix tape called Sad Songs for Sad Times, which had a counterpart, Fun Songs for Fun Times. There's a Sequal too, but I need to do another to include some of the sad songs I've discovered since then.

"Broadway songs on my iPod playlist that my friend lovingly refers to as the 'slit your wrists playlist.' "
Heh. I have such a playlist too, including:
-There is a Fountain/It Don't Make Sense (Parade) - How has nobody mentioned this one yet?
-On My Own & I Dreamed a Dream & A Little Fall of Rain & Empty Chairs at Empty Tables (Les Miserables)
-Are You There? (Bare)
-Losing My Mind (Follies)
-Stay With Me & Lament (Into the Woods)
-A Boy Like That/I Have a Love & Somewhere & Tonight (the quartet) (West Side Story)
-The Movie in My Mind & Why God, Why? (Miss Saigon)
-And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going & I Am Changing (Dreamgirls)
-Look Over There (La Cage aux Folles)
-What Would You Do? (Cabaret)
-Tell Me on a Sunday (Song & Dance)
-Fantasies Come True (Avenue Q) - The end of this song is heartbreaking, for me
-Will I? (Rent)
-Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again (The Phantom of the Opera)
That's in addition to the songs I've already mentioned, and a couple of Bette Midler songs.

I was about to say that, but then I saw that you posted it and, it's funny because I'm listening to Days of Plently now. haha, of course, you're my best friend, AP! I also thing that "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" is kind of sad, but I'm talking Sarah, not Emmy. Emmy kind of makes me want to forceably insert a paper cutter in my anus to distract myself.
Lament - Into the Woods
No One is Alone - Into the Woods
Solla Sollew - Seussical
Unworthy of Your Love - Assassins
Ariadne - The Frogs
No Good Deed - Wicked
I Honestly Love You - The Boy From Oz
Love Don't Need A Reason - The Boy From Oz
Somewhere That's Green (Reprise) - Little Shop of Horrors
In random order:
'Fifty Percent' from Ballroom
'Old Friend' from I'm Getting My Act Together And Taking It On The Road
'Mamma A Rainbow' from Minnie's Boys
'Make The Man Love Me' from A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
'Wanting' from Rags
'I Loved You Once In Silence' from Camelot
'When I Look At You' from The Scarlet Pimpernel
That's all I can think of right now off the top of my head.
"before the summer ends" from dracula always gets me.
"still hurting" "nobody needs to know" and "goodbye/rescue" from Last Five Years are also tear jerkers.
and it's not really a sad song, but i cried during "music of the night" the last time i saw phantom. the way that hugh sang it just got me really choked up. i was also in the second row, so i felt his emotion so well.
"I'd Give My Life For You" - Miss Saigon
"Still Hurting" - L5Y
"All the Wasted Time" from Parade (it is so sad because you know what's about to happen)
"How Could I Ever Leave You" from Secret Garden--but don't forget "Where in the World" which immediatley preceeds it. Seeing the agony Archie is experiencing makes the following song all the more powerful.
"Anthem" from Chess. One of my all-time favorites.
"A Little Fall of Rain" from Les Miz
"She's a Woman" from KOTSW
"Make them Hear You" (especially) and "Till We Reach that Day" from Ragtime
"If I Loved You (Reprise)" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Carousel. In the reprise of "If I Love You" it is so sad because Billy finally regrets how he treated Julie when he was alive and realizes how much he really loved her and knows will never have her again...and of course You'll Never Walk gets me both times it is sung!

noone mentioned this but I think "Lot's Wife" from Caroline or Change is pretty damn sad... Also, I'll cover you reprise and Goodbye love from Rent... Lily's Eyes...
"Without you" -Rent
"I think it was the Korean tour or something. They were all frickin' asian!" -Zoran912
Wax Lion would like to agree with "How Could I Ever Know" from THE SECRET GARDEN. He also has a strong attachment to "I'll Cover You (reprise). Many tears have been shed over that song. Here are some of his other favorite sad songs:
• The Origin of Love
• Home (Reprise)
• The I Love You Song
• The Wizard and I ("...but I swear someday there'll be, a celebration throughout Oz that's all to do with me!" is heart-wrenching)
• Somewhere That's Green (Reprise)
• Lot's Wife
Love,
Wax Lion
Sorry if these have been said. (i didn't read through the whole thread)

Pretty much every song from the Phantom of the Opera (such a sad story!!!)

Totally OT from the thread, I LOVE your picture WonderBoy!
If in Heaven you don't excel, you can always party down in hell...
Send in the Clowns, For Good (Wicked, yeah yeah yeah hate me but it's sad), Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, Sunrise Sunset...
I didn't see On My Own for awhile, I was about to say...honestly that used to be my cheering up song. If I felt depressed I would play it and tell myself I'm not as sad as she is.
Actually, as this thread demonstrated, soo many songs from Les Miz..Dreamed A Dream, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables, Fantine's death, etc. If we had a thread about saddest show, this would definitely be up there...in my opinion only rivaled by Miss Saigon. Those Frenchmen...haha.
Somewhere/finale from West Side Story...the way the chorus sings it...ahh.
No One Would Listen from POTO movie(deleted scenes)
