"still think Batman is the only comics character that would really make a fantastic musical."
It's already happening.
They're in the process of finding writers to begin working on a new BATMAN musical based on the most recent films ("Batman Begins" and "Dark Knight).
It's still in the very early stages but with the success of the first two films, approval for a Broadway-bound musical was easy.

I wanted to see it, really bad, but now that its called, "Turn off the dark" I probably, won't. At least I won't try and pay for it.

ONE performace of Billy per week is $136.50 (not every performace at $137 like Spiderman) and they have $41.50 seats (not $70 rear mezz like Spiderman). I just hope Spiderman changes their policy on the cheap seats...

Posted: 2/25/09 at 10:32amI never wish for a show to flop. I am just angry with middle America for destroying our art form. Those uneducated people are the reason that producers are forced to back crap like this. I dont need to see the show to know that it is not going to have an ounce of soul touching theatrical magic. Its going to be just a bunch of special effects thats it... It breaks my heart that I will prabobly never have more than a year of job security on Broadway because, I want to make my career performing in revivals of golden age musicals . Most people today dont appreciate them. I was born to late Broadway World friends.

You're a ****ing douchebag.
You're generalizing thousands and thousands of people based on a stereotype. There is no substance to your argument and you're just a big piece of ****, it seems!
Were you born in "middle America" ? Do you know more about it than what you see on the television and hear on the radio?
Shut your face, you bigot.

Agreed. I can't even remotely take it seriously now.

Interesting, I hadn't heard that. Shame it'll be riding on Spider-Man's heels now if it happens, and will be subject to even more ridicule. Would've been better based on Tim Burton's more theatrical, art deco-y Batman movies. Or better yet, just the 70 years of comics. BUt I'd keep sort of open minded about it.

I wouldn't be overly shocked if they had one person playing Spider-Man and another playing Peter Parker. Say that Sturgess does take the role. He could be be Peter while they hire someone with trapeze/gymnastic abilities to wear the costume.
They could even have "Team Spider-Man" where they'd have several guys who only wear the costume. By not having one person doing the stunts 8 times a week it could, hopefully, reduce the injury risk.

Posted: 2/25/09 at 12:37pmI think the latter option is very likely, although whoever plays Pete will probably have a few scenes in the costume. If only so he can pull off the mask and everyone will go, "it really IS him!"

I was thinking the same thing. The opening number of "Legally Blonde" comes to mind when the sorority girl comes out with her hair in curlers and a robe on. When she slides down the pole she's completely dressed with her hair all done. A bit that always got a positive reaction from the audience that used two actresses. I'd imagine that something similar could occur in Spider-Man. Spider-Man #1 drops behind some scenery and out pops Sturgess.

You know, I liked U2 stuff from the late 80's early 90's, but the recent stuff they've put out has been crap. I saw Bono perform a new song at an awards show (?) a few months ago and it was just terrible.
I think most of the u2 fan base is from their old stuff. Even though the group does have quite the following, I don't think their fans are into musical theatre much. :/

According to Variety :
"Capitalization costs for the production remain unconfirmed, although the tuner is said to come in north of $35 million."
