I'm... strangely excited. If nothing else, it'll be visually stunning. Even "Across The Universe" (which I hated) was beautiful and interesting to look at. And I love Evan Rachel Wood. I'm excited.

Don't know how I feel about the "Turn Off the Dark" part though. Seems a little like an amusement park ride.

I definitely curious, although it seems from I've heard so far that this belongs in Vegas.

And "Turn Off The Dark"?

I don't know what to think of this. It's a freaking costly production, but kids will probably love it and family shows seem to be doing well during this bad economy.

I wonder how Spider-Man will be flying around, will he go above the audience? It would be cool if in the first scene with spider-man, he flies from the back of the audience to the stage. That's probably unlikely, but I think with the right direction, this could be good.

"Turn Off the Dark" sounds ridiculous. Why not just call it Spiderman the Musical?

It's not impossible to have Spidey websling from the audience to the stage. They flew Mary Poppins out over it and Lord knows there's money enough to make it possible. The only issue is how FAST that can happen. He swings pretty quickly, but could it be that quick in the theater? Hmmm. I also can't wait to see what villain they use. Maybe it's been leaked before and I'm oblivious.

I have a feeling he will be swinging over the audience... if not, that would be kinda lame with the hype they are bringing. And I have a feeling it will be one of the villain's they used in the movies, probably the Green Goblin? Who knows

"Turn off the Dark" sounds like some... weird techno song or something.

Even if Sturgess agrees to do this and with Evan Rachel wood I think it will fail. I know we shouldnt judge a show til it opens (like xanadu) but i mean I just cant possibly see the good that will come from this. Im so F****** sick of this commerical theater garbage!

"Turn Off the Dark" sound more like one of those detective-murder-mystery episodes on television.

But, secretly excited how this will turn out. Lion King and Magic Flute, among Taymor's other stage works, have been splendid.

I think the biggest problem facing the show is its huge budget. Even if it plays to sold out houses it will take a while to recoup. I'm willing to keep an open mind about the show, but if the creative team can trim the costs they would be wise to do so.

Apparently there is no conceivable way to tell Julie Taymor to spend less money, based on reports.

If she's able to create something artful and magical, then I say, "Go for it!".

There's nothing wrong with commercial theatre--only BAD theatre, commercial or otherwise.

I feel like the Green Goblin would require too much flying. It's bad enough we have Spiderman flying. Then we'd have a hovercraft of sorts? I don't know. Plus, I think they would want to go different villains than the movies.

I think someone like Carnage (re: 'SPIDER-MAN, Turn Off the Dark' Swings to Bdwy's Hilton Theatre Feb. 20) would work. But if they were going to take a villain from the movies, the only interesting choice would be Venom. He's the best villain of them all and he also adds some more darkness.

see, from what I gather, this is going to be a cirque-du-soleil style show... so I want to say they would WANT a lot of flying

For some reason the title makes me think of the song "Hold Me, Bat Boy". But I am excited for this for two reasons, the first being that there is a small percentage of a chance that it will actually be good. I mean stranger things have happened after all. And I'm not gonna lie - huge fan of the source material and Evan Rachel Wood (thirteen is one of my favorite films about adolescence). But the second reason is that it could be up there with Phantom 2 as one of the most over-produced/worst ideas coming to stage. So either way I'll probably be there at the Hilton in 2010. Just not sure if that's a good thing or not yet.

I'm looking forward to this, also. I just hope the score lives up to the hype. I mean, not just "lights and smoke"

I have to guess that Marvel will want them to use a villian who hasn't yet appeared in the film series and won't appear in future films. So that leaves out both Green Goblins, Doc Oc, Venom, and Lizard (Dr. Connors has already been in the films and will, most likely, turn into Lizard in #4). And you can't have Carnage without Venom because Carnage is created from Venom. I would think they would choose a character that wouldn't have hours of make up since many of them have dual identities unless you use two different actors.

So here are a list of what I think are good possibilites.

Electro: Can control electricity after being struck by lightening. No special makeup - just a guy in costume.

Hammerhead: A crime boss. No special makeup needed.

Kingpin: Also a crime boss. Fatsuit needed.

Kraven the hunter: A big game hunter who wants to capture Spider-Man.

Mysterio: A failed stuntman and movie special effects artist. An extravegant costume could put him out of the running.

Shocker: Created gauntlets capable of throwing incredibly powerful vibrational blasts. Just a guy in a costume.

Vulture: A man who turns to crime after being cheated by his business partner. Has gadgets and a costume. But no heavy makeup.

A casting notice went out recently and they're looking for the Green Goblin, so I'm assuming he's at least one of the main villains.
