This hits just as hard as the Groundhog Day announcement. I just saw this for the third time this past Thursday. I love this show so much. Will definitely being seeing it a couple more times before it goes. Damn....

Whatever agency runs their social media is a true gem. Their social media is a true extension of the show and their enthuiasm and occasional clap backs never felt out of place or forced.
im sad to see the show close, I knew it was coming but it still sucks seeing it officially announced.

Orrrrrrrr let people spend their money on what they want without acting snobby over it?
Anyways, sad to see this one go. I hope Ethan Slater can find some solid work, because he needs another chance to win that Tony someday.

I'm just saying seeing Peters - a legend - in an iconic role vs. a show you've already seen.... I mean c'mon...

Dude. It's his money and his taste; please respect that! Everyone is allowed an opinion, but certain people were not mean to be swayed, love.

Yes, this is your opinion. It is my opinion, your posts remind of comments made by a teenager. As for "the best theatre district in the world," the one in London can give Broadway a run for its money.
Your opinion about SpongeBob Squarepants is it's a stain on a Sacred and Holy Space known as Broadway. Give me a break!

All of your posts are asinine and reek of immaturity. Not respecting someone's opinion and mocking it? Yeah, you're 12. You're also completely ridiculous for not respecting another person's view simply because it differs from yours. Byeeeeeee.

Hard to believe but different people place different values on different experiences... differently.

This is my new favorite thing!

Yes, there is difference in opinion. But there's also expressing that opinion respectfully, and being able to "read the room" so to speak. This was clearly a thread where people were speaking respectfully of the show, and expressing their appreciation for it. It's not wasn't necessarily the best place to rejoice in its closing announcement, and dismissively go all "Bye" on it. Time and a place.

I feel like it is very simplistic and annoying to measure a show's success by its run on Broadway alone. Spongebob will make far more through touring and licensing than it ever could on Broadway. Its unique approach to sets and costumes would translate VERY VERY VERY well to High School and Junior productions...
I get the feeling that the Broadway run of Spongebob was always meant to be fairly short (Why else would Nickelodeon open it at a theatre due to close soon?) and it was put in the Palace Theatre in order to raise publicity for productions which will be performed all over America and the World. Spongebob's unexpected success during awards season this year means that theatre companies and schools will be absolutely desperate for the rights to stage it...

Then I got home and read reviews and found out it was considered by many to be an outstandingly creative show... I regret missing this show very much and will try to keep a more open mind when I’m able to go back someday. Lesson learned.
I truly wish the best for all those involved. And Ellie, please keep in mind that when a show closes, many people lose their jobs and it’s generally expected to be kind on these types of threads, if for no other reason than to respect those people. Just something to keep in mind.

The similarities are striking with COMET closing, not the turd groundhog. And the Bowie song is good if you bothered listening to it.
And we and Spongebob will get the last laugh, they will never make back their $billion in retail. I want to know what they are paying Spongebob, like Harry Potter did.

As far as why the score is by dozens of major stars instead of a singular one, that's a recurring feature of the SpongeBob franchise: a genre-bending soundtrack with new songs from major artists of all genres and eras. I mean, freaking PANTERA wrote a song for the show. Having a singular score on Broadway would almost defeat the point, and "pleasant hodgepodge jumble" is very much the visual and auditory aesthetic of the franchise.

Although I didn’t really enjoy this show in its out of town tryout, I have enjoyed listening to the cast album. I hope Ethan Slater’s career goes even farther.

RippedMan said: "Uh, without a doubt choose Dolly. I hated every second of this show, but thought it was well-done, but just a mis-fire from the beginning. So many of those songs should have been cut. I don't get why the guy who wrote "Bikini Bottom Day" didn't just write the whole score. Was anyone really showing up to hear a David Bowie song (that was awful)?"
The inclusion of Bowie was literally the reason the show came on my radar at all. I assumed he had written a new song for the show, and when I found out it was "No Control" being used instead, I was even more intrigued, as it was a mystery to me how it would fit with the show.
That got me to investigate more about it, buy tix, smile more than I have in years, and return over and over. I really enjoyed the mix of songs, although I do agree that I would love a version where Coulton wrote it all. He, incidentally, worked on rewriting the "No Control" lyrics, if memory serves.
I am sorry you couldn't enjoy it, but let those who did rejoice and mourn.

Both my daughter and I see a lot of theater. She wanted to see this after performing a few songs at her school (her school is a performance art school with a lot of teachers who work on Broadway they had permission). I was a little reluctant but figured why not. I really enjoyed it, as did she.

I'm really sad to see this show close too, (bad memories of timing and business "Great Comet"
We just got tix again.
I'm hoping Ethan will go back to doing the Sunday matinees since the closing notice is real now...we can do without the snark too; Tina Landau and this cast created a wonderful world at the Palace. Maybe they will go "FATHOMS (Events) Below..Fathoms Below." and film it for theaters and BroadwayHD.
Again, if you don't experience the happiness, talent and joy coming from that stage every night, go back outside and find yourself a heart.

UGH, I'm actually pretty upset about this! I've seen the show twice and have loved it every time. It may not be a perfect production, but the joy it radiates is truly infectious. Sad to see it go!
