"but the idea that shes too "musical theater" for a straight play is yikes. Significant Other, Fire in Dreamland, Marie and Rosetta, Describe the Night- those are just off the top of my head some of the straight plays shes done (and received acclaim for). Silly.
Not "yikes" or "silly". A truth many actors won't accept about self. She was fine ENOUGH in these shows - but also churned out musical theater-styled performances. Marie and Rosetta particularly, was a play with music, where she was cast for her singing and resembled Knight.
Disappointing to hear about the new cast, but I wonder if they'll grow into the roles. I wonder if the original understudies were offered the parts or if they had other projects lined up already (since they seem to have departed as well), seeing as Benjamin Anthony Anderson who started off understudying sounds like he's settled in the most smoothly. I'd still be VERY curious to see Emilie Kouatchou's Diana though

The only understudy who left was Holly’s understudy, and Benjamin Anthony Anderson was bumped up. Emilie Kouatchou is the new Holly understudy, while Denver Milord replaced BAA as Peter’s understudy. Lily Ganser and Cornelius McMoyler are still the Diana and Reg/Grover understudies.
I do imagine they’ll grow in the roles, but they also only have 3 months to do that and it’s gone. As someone else said, if you missed the OBC, it’s probably not the best time to see it and get what everyone was talking about.
I saw this last night, the first of 9 shows in my six day visit (seeing three on Thursday, due to Oh! Mary’s 5:99pm performance.
I thought it was an excellent production with a lot of great scenes, but I did think it would have benefitted from some judicious editing, I.e., it was just a little too long and seemed to get repetitive towards the end. Nevertheless, a really good night in the theatre. I clearly missed several members of the original cast, and have read how this cast is inferior to the original. Not having seen the original cast, I can only say that I thought this cast was outstanding, with the actress who replaced Rebecca Pidgeon (don’t have the Playbill nearby) still representing the soul of the show for me. Not a weak link.
it was thrilling that my first show this visit was just so good.
