According to The Hollywood Reporter, A Streetcar Named Desire is being revived in the spring with Blair Underwood as Stanley. Emily Mann directs. Surprised this is coming but not a transfer of the Blanchett or Weisz productions.

Interesting. But from the thread title I thought it was Carrie Underwood and almost squealed with gay giddy excitement.

Haha! Sorry to get your hopes up!
In 20 years I would kill to see Carrie as Blanche.

I'm still upset the Blanchett production never transferred.

See I thought of Blair Brown and was totally confused- was she playing Blanche? Stella? Or was it a lesbian interpretation?
God, I barely got to "Streetcar returning to Broadway" and was already squealing.
Well, I am certain that Anika Noni Rose will likely be in this, either as Stella or Blanche (I see her more as a Stella).
That would be divine.
If only Audra were available for Blanche.
Thandie Newton for Blanche!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jordan-it would be too predictable and boring to cast Anika. I prefer Sanaa Lathan, actually. She's really a terrific actress. (Loved her in Raisin in the Sun-she was my favorite performer in that, in fact.)

You guys are killing me. Streetcar coming back was enough, but the idea of Anika, I can't handle it. That is a marvelous suggestion.
Double. Post.

Blair's a little old to be playing Stanley at this point, but at least he doesn't look it. He's 46 now, and Brando was 23 (half Blair's age) in the original play and 27 in the film.
And while I can easily see an African-American cast, age is still a critical element of this drama as far as the characters go. When Stanley shines the harsh revealing light into Blanche's eyes, she should turn it around and holler, "Back atcha, old man!"
Makes me wonder just how old Blanche will be.
Ruby Dee for Blanche!!!!!!
Whoopi will be playing Blanche as well as understudying Stanley.
Only if her costume can be her Tony outfit.
Now you're talkin', Jordan!
With a 46-year-old Stanley, you've gotta go for a 50-ish (at least) Blanche, to make those scenes play. If they cast her any younger or obviously younger than him, it's only going to make Stanley laughable, rather than ugly for pointing out how the cracks of time are showing on her face.
I suppose age is in the mind, and maybe an older Stanley can point out to a younger (than him) Blanche convincingly that she's past her prime. Maybe.
But if we up the age of all these characters ... how about Cicely Tyson as Blanche and Viola Davis (who is one year younger than Blair) as Stella?
