I'm so thrilled for Nottage and this great show that it'll be bowing on Broadway. I hope the whole company transfers. Studio 54 seems like a huge house for a show like this, though.

With so many acclaimed new plays transferring from off-Broadway to Broadway this season, we could potentially have 5 Best Play Tony nominees this year.

Before this news, I would have thought Oslo would win Best Play by a mile. Now the category seems much more competitive.

Well-deserved. And I also hope the producers don't feel they need to bring in greater "star power" to make it viable on Broadway, as every member of the current cast is outstanding.

It's great to see Lynn Nottage making her Broadway debut finally... but Studio 54? Really? For this little play?

It's funny you mention Oslo, AC126748. Both these shows are going into houses much bigger than what the material seems to be asking. I'm apprehensive about the venue eating up the play - for Sweat more so than Oslo, but I guess we'll find out.

At 1,200 seats, I'd say it's absolutely on the larger side. Especially for a play...

Glad to see this is definitely happening. What started as a thin season for new plays has become very exciting, with Paula Vogel and Lynn Nottage making long overdue Broadway debuts.

I don't think the Oslo will suffer at all in the Beaumont. It's a theater that feels far more intimate than it's actual size. And the play itself is really a grand-scale drama.

I was, of course, referring to the intimacy of the Beaumont. Not the seat number.

My April trip now has over 20 shows that I want to see in the span of 7 days... why is the spring so stacked?

What a ridiculous statement for multiple reasons. First of all, the Beaumont has only had 2 musicals in the last decade (granted they were both long-running in South Pacific and King and I), while there have been 9 plays (7 if you count the three parts of Coast of Utopia as one play). Secondly, the Beaumont has exactly one more seat than the Schoenfeld, which has plays all the time (including the current run of The Humans) and where in fact 13 of the last 16 productions have been plays. Finally, the Cort, Longacre, and Barrymore all have MORE seats than the Beaumont and have primarily been play houses in the last decade.

I wonder if Miriam Shor is going to stay with the production, she'll also be filming Younger and I know she has a history of doing only off-Broadway

I'm sure Younger could accommodate her filming schedule around performances in Sweat. Plenty of actors and actresses have handled the double duty with TV shows and films that shoots in New York, so if she wants to stay with the show when it comes to Broadway, she probably could.

Sweat is an excellent play! With 3 extensions and sold out shows at the PubIic i think the play will do well at Studio 54. I also hope the entire ensemble transfers to Broadway as they all had superb performances. Will definitely be making a trip back this spring to see it again. I wonder if the play will have changes during the transfer.

I have a trip planned for April and for the first time ever, I think I'll see more plays than musicals.
Which previously produced plays are must sees? Sweat / Oslo / Significant Other / Indecent - am I missing anything else that has announced a transfer?

Indecent
Oslo
Sweat
Significant Other
I have plans to revisit the top three

Significant Other will def be a tough sell alongside these. It's just not...significant...enough. This is such a great show! Hope they expand the design.

What does the number of musicals vs plays having been housed by certain theaters have to do with the prior statement that you claim is ridiculous? Most plays are indeed housed in theaters that seat less than 1200. And what sources are you using to obtain the seating capacities of the Schoenfeld, Cort, Longacre and Barrymore? I think those sources may be suspect.

I don't think Miriam will be joining the Broadway production with the rest of the cast 
. Auditions were posted for the role of Jessie and understudies.
