So School of Rock is doing front row lottery which I can confirm because I won it Saturday!
However, when I looked on Telecharge for tickets to upcoming performances they are selling the front row. What is going on here? Are they going to stop selling it as lotto?

Hmmm. What row is the front row for this production? AA? I don't think they're selling it on Telecharge. Not for the next week or so, anyway. Maybe I missed something?

I tried the lottery a couple of week ago, and they actually told us that they had only 12 seats, and that they would be spread out around the theatre, NOT in the front row. So I guess it varies.
There were probably only 50 people there when I went, maybe fewer. The odds weren't too bad, but I still lost. They do a very reasonably-priced lotto loser deal for something like $35 I think. I chose not to go for it, only because I know I'll have more opportunities to try the lotto.

I went last week and there wasn't a large amount of people. I think most everyone either won or got the "loser seats" which are partial view and $37. They said they gave out around 24 seats for lotto (could be wrong on the number, but it's in the 20s), but that the seats weren't going to be together. I was in Row U, which sounded far back, but I was center and I could see everything. Was a great seat. Not sure where the other lotto winners were, but I was the last to be drawn.

I did the lotto last Wednesday for the matinee and it was an easy win. I would say there were maybe 30 or 35 winners. All the seats were together (the girl pulling names even said "don't worry, you'll be sitting with your date" to everyone). My name was third or fourth called and I had front row center 111 and 112.

Thanks everyone! I am worried now that the show has come out to rave reviews that there will be a lot more people for the lotto. Anyone know how it's been since the show opened?

I won the lotto the sat mat before opening, they only gave out 13 seats and my friend and I were split up. My ticket was the last row of the mezz center but was a perfect view.. Weren't that many people there.. maybe 30?

Important note to anyone planning to lotto this show:
They do not set aside ANY tickets for this lottery. I went to the theatre to try the lotto tonight, but when I got there they said the lotto had been canceled because they were sold out. But they do offer $27 standing room, so I decided to buy one of those. With the positive reviews out there, I figured this won't be the last time. I don't want to keep going back to try again and just hope that they are doing a lotto on the day I go.
in any case, I'm excited for the show tonight. Will report back about the standing room situation of people are curious.

That is the biggest bunch of BS. I HATE when shows do lotto and then people come into the city especially for it just for it to be cancelled. I remember Aladdin did this for rush and had to let people go who were waiting since 4 or 5am. They smartened up and set aside tickets for a lottery.If you do lottery then set aside tickets or just don't do lottery at all!!! This smells like bad publicity to me if this keeps happening for this show. People will not be happy. I would be livid!

Yuck, I never recall a lottery being based on availability before... also, kind of surprising they are selling that well, but good on them for that, if they didn't annoy people turning up for lottery simultaneously.

Wouldn't those that came into the city for a lottery (for any show) have a back up plan..in case they didn't win? I understand being disappointed, but it's not like it's a guarantee.

Well considering they sell SRO when the show is sold out (and therefore no lotto), there's a kind of built-in back of plan. If anything, the SRO seats are more of a guarantee than the lotto seats, if the show is indeed sold out enough to cancel the lotto.

No problem. I do need to follow my own advice, though. I am probably not winning the Hamilton lottery because I have fallback plans every time.

Personally I think if you are going to offer a lottery, the show has to offer some lottery seats at each performance. You can't just say we are having the lottery and then just don't do it. No one ever does that..
Sure they get more money for reg seats but the amount of good will that you lose by not offering the seats you advertised is- in the long run - not worth the extra $$ IMO.
If they want to say - only lottery at these specific performances or not on the weekends, fine. But to say there is going to be a lottery..and then there is not ..is just WRONG.

Hamilton, Book of Mormon, and Wicked which are insanely popular and much more popular than School of Rock will ever be manage to set aside lotto tickets every performance. If they can then any show can. At some point people are going to get really pissed and boycott the show.

No disrespect intended as a fellow frequent rusher/lotto entrant, but I don't think the producers are concerned about losing the goodwill of customers who will only pay $35 for a ticket when they retain that of buyers who will pay full-price.

Instead of canceling the lottery entirely, why not just lotto off standing room spots? I don't know what the demand for them is like currently, but it would help combat the disappointment that is resulting from not holding a lottery all together.

Personally, I prefer waiting in line to a lotto. I like knowing that if I get in line early enough, I'll get an affordable seat. I'm glad for SRO in general: it's how I saw "Fun Home" among others.

I have been studying this since my original post and I think for whatever reason they sold front row from the end of previews through the holidays.
I actually am suspicious it was a mistake. If you look starting in mid-January the front row is blocked again for the rest of the run. My guess is it will be front row lottery starting then.
