What scores would you like to see remastered, and how (better sound, bonus tracks, more of the score, etc.)?
Andrew Lloyd Webber's REQUIEM. The sound on the current issue is horrendous. Sometimes, I have to crank my volume to hear it when in the next minute or so, it is BLASTING out of my speakers.
I know this doesn't belong here, but Jerry Goldsmith's sensational score for the 1966 film gem THE TROUBLE WITH ANGELS -- which aches/screams to be made into a musical.

ALW's Requiem is so incredibly horrible it's not worth a remastering. His foray into so-called "serious" composition is a sophomore effort at best.
For a good modern Requiem mass, I would suggest you try to get your hands on Christian McLeer's Requiem, some excellent writing and even better vocal writing.
I like ALW's Requiem and would very much like to see a remastered CD of it. From his cast recording it would be good to have remasters of 1978 Broadway cast recording of Evita (this time the whole thing) and 1993 London recording of Sunset Boulevard.

Interesting you mentioned ALW's Requiem, because I was treated to an enthralling performance of the "Pie Jesu" (I spelled that wrong) at church last night. The only problem was I kept thinking: "This is the same guy who wrote a musical about dancing cats," which pretty much ruined the mass.
I would like to see the Les Miserables score remastered to all the original orchestrations used in the London cast recording, especially the orchestrations on "Stars."

I'm a mild ALW fan but I reallyd on't get the appeal of Requiem either--that said I know a number of ALW's 80s recordings suffer from that problem of WAY too severe discrepencies between the quiet and loud sections.
Evita hasn't been remastered? Seems odd that Aspects of Love was but not Evita... As for Sunset Blvd--I don't think any recording done in the 90s would benefit even slightly from remastering--when ti is done it's merely a gimmic as technology asn't changed that much
Remaster the Follies OBC. The sound shifts from speaker to speaker on the album so much. It's quite annoying. Perhaps it's because the album was so poorly produced, but if it is changeable, it deserves a remaster as much as Merrily We Roll Along or Sweeney Todd do.
While we're on the Andrew Lloyd Webber wagon, Song & Dance is in major need of a re-master. The volume is so low, one of my all-time favorite cast recordings (any recording w/Bernadette Peters singing all the songs makes my all-time favorite list) but the quality is less than stellar.
You know what Lloyd Webber show could use a remaster...no a rewrite- Phantom! Sorry, I had to. He's just been mentioned too many times.

Sad to say but FOllies WAS remastered--part of Angel Broadway's remasters in hte early to mid 90s--I doubt it can sound anybetter unless they went back and remixed it (which I believe they partly did when they remastered Chorus Line) However i have the old cd and the newer and it does sound much better (adn still doesn't sound great )

I agree. Trouble With Angels would make a TERRIFIC musical.
I would love to see the Evita concept recording re-mastered. Perhaps even a new recording of that concept recording. Often I think "wow this in some ways could have been the coolest version of Evita" and then I remember the insecticide subplot. Eh, who cares, I say remaster or rerecord it anyways.
The FOLLIES cd does move the cast from left to right a lot. Capitol did this on many of their stereo cast albums to "recreate stage action and heighten realism." I think Eric is right: The Angel release is the best that album will ever be. (See Ted Chapin's FOLLIES book for details of the troubled recordings session where malfunctions and breakdowns ate into the already limited recording time.)
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

This answer may have come from out if left field, but I would love to have a remastered CD Of GEORGE M! Im sure that Sony has more recording material of that show in their vaults somewhere. The CD booklet needs to be updated with pictures and a history of that show as well.
One has to wonder if that show was allowed to compete in the 1967-68 Tonys instead of being forced to wait until the next season would it or HAIR have beaten HALLELUJAH, BABY! ?

I would like to hear a newly-recorded CD of Smile, using the ORIGINAL orchestrations, ORIGINAL tempi, and everything else.
I know we were talking about remastered, but I think the studio recording of SMILE is so synthy and old that I think we need a new recording of the whole show.
The 1976 concept recording of Evita has already been remastered in 1996 and it is available on Amazon. The sound is absolutely perfect.

the Cabaret movie soundtrack - the sound quality suffers generational loss, I think
George M! is one of the few Columbia titles that did not get remastered on Sony. It could use a sonic upgrade since the first CD release was basically a transfer of the Lp master.
The 1962 ANYTHING GOES is another, although that was originally in Epic, not Columbia.

They did not record "Who Do You Think You Are?" What you hear on that CD is what you get...it was designed to be a pop album.

There's a studio album of "Smile" or are you referring to the one Sam French has?

I'm still trying to track down the infamous SMile recording--synthy sound and all.

husk_charmer, I think the Sam French and studio CD are one and the same. I think that's the only one to my knowledge.
